^^^ exactly, new shooters are attracted to the "cool" factor, that's the hook, and tacticool is well, cool.

That Operator Hatin' Thread got me to thinking....

WTB Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Stainless Steel and Blackbought a Kimber Stainless instead baby. -
I am a bit lost about this. Is there something wrong with "wanting-to-be" like the people who protect our country?
We see kids do it all the time...pretending to be police officers, firefighters, cowboys, and fight pretend wars, using nerf guns and other fake gear that have no practicality in real life, but its still fun. We grow up a little bit, get a job and can afford some of the cool (and real) gear that some of these hero's use to fight for our freedom and we can't have a little fun by role playing? That makes no sense to me!
Well, Why didn't I join the military if I wanted to dress up in cool gear and run tactical drills and fight wars...Idk its just not the direction I CHOSE for my life. I have never thought of our military as people who train to kill but rather people who train to protect! I see no problem in dressing up and having a little more fun and I think it takes nothing away from the relaxing, enjoyable outside time. If anything I think it would add to the fun and if I ever went out to a range meet up where someone took over wanting to run drills and I wasn't happy or comfortable...I could simply leave. I feel like this is a bigger deal that it should have been.
I stayed out of the Operator Bashing thread but I'm glad the OP started this thread. We need to be a little more open minded just like we desire the Lefts to be!Comment

Tommy, I have to whole heartedly agree with you, as firearms enthusiasts (I think that describes us as a collective) regardless of how we utilize our Firearms I feel that alienating a group of people because they ______________________, is generally toxic for the community as a whole. Unless they're being unsafe then you need a stern talkin to.
We have bigger fish to fry eg: people that try and ban ghost guns that fire 30 round magazine clips on .5 seconds.Comment

OP,
Great post and I agree.
I've always believed in 2A, but was ignorant of the gun laws.
COD/GHOST RECON peeked my interest and I walked into a LGS to see a holographic sight.
I learned of the gun laws and couldn't believe them. I was angry and bought my first Daniel Defense carbine (8 years later..I still haven't shot it). Proceed to buy 1-3 guns a month. Applied and received my CCW when others told me it's impossible in OC. I've helped 4-5 people get their CCW prior to Peruta.
I think what's driving gun culture is the video gaming and movie is industry. They push the message that guns are cool, fun, and rebellious nature of young people.
I have more faith in the gaming industry to attract more gun enthusiasts than the NRA.Comment

After playing BF4 for a couple months, it made me look into owning a rifle of my own. Only wish I had gotten into this before my dad passed because it would've been a good opportunity to bond.
To the OP, good post and you made a lot of valid points.Comment

So a bunch of magazines in your cargo pants is OK, but a chest rig is ridiculous?
How is concealing magazines in your jacket not "operator wannabe"?
I was referring to a single point slingComment

Everyone has their own way of going about things. For me, most of my tactical stuff has been from my time in service. My thinking still does go along these lines some times when I am looking at stuff.sigpicComment

Thumbs up! Well stated.i think people should look as tacticool and goofy as they want
i think grown men should stop worrying about how other grown men choose to dress
i think harley riders in leather gear are a little silly, and they probably think i am silly, and i like that, as long as mutual respect is shownOriginally posted by beccibooWhy make it clear when there is an agency that can make up and enforce their own laws? Its one of those things where you need to make the personal decision as to whether you want to be right or free. Is it worth it to you?

being in the Army for most of my life and stuck in the Army doctrine of you train how you fight. I do take classes that I can use my gear on my own dime and time.
if someone wants to wear the gear and use it. ok no biggie. be safe and don't do stupid things. I see guys in my classes wear the same gear I do no biggie to me at all.
it's all in a fun day of shooting and training.http://govnews.ca.gov/gov39mail/mail.php

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

Why are there so many threads popping up debating on what others wear should wear at the range befor they get made fun of. I sense a bit of jealousy and insecurity. At least the guys dressed up aren't insecure what they look like or give a F what others think. Probably more fun to hang out with too."If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." - Thomas JeffersonComment

REALLY???I'm still trying to figure out what everyones definition of "range" is.
If you're shooting any kind of military type rifle, AK, AR... You should be training with proper equipment. Yes, (gasp) a chest rig and sling would be nesccessary. As these are not hunting or target rifles.
I dont see it any different than holstering your pistol or having mags on a belt.
But once again, if you're only shooting indoors at a faciltiy with every Tom, Dick and Harry, you are very limited as to what you can do. In which case, I feel sorry for you.
Plenty of people "hunt" with ARs in various calibers and the AK is a decent pig gun. Plus I'm sure the guys on the military's shooting teams will be astonished to hear their ARs aren't "target" rifles.
Feel free to remove your foot from your mouth at your convenience.
OP, great observation and a very valid point.Comment

Someone CAN use a Mosin Nagant to clear a room. Does that make it a Tactical Rifle?REALLY???
