Isn't it illegal to look at anything that resembles a firearm in Ca? Let alone touch it?

Turner's employees know what Turner's tell them. They don't work there because they are the brightest people in the world. They work there because, they need a job and they do their jobs the way the company tells them to. The best thing to do is not to support a shop that doesn't follow the law.

if i had more thumbs i'd put them down, so 2 thumbs down for turners
You must have contacted a know nothing know it all trained by one of their "experts".When one of my friends went to Bass Pro in Rancho he said many of the clerks behind the firearms counter were formerly employed in the orange county turners.

the turnover rate at Turners is 100%, most of the theft at their stores are by their employees. They would put just about anybody at the counter and pays min wage. Employees comes from all walk of life. the advantage of working there is getting stuff for cheap (cost). Only the full time employees get med ins. Unfortunately, people whom shop their thinks the person behind the counter are gun experts... Customer service varies from store to store... the Escondido store is knowledgeable! PPT can take up to 2 hours as Turners do not make much money it and they think you are taking a sale from them. So they want you to loiter in the store while the PPT is done.. hopefully you end up picking up a cleaning kit or ammo

"Don't fault them for being conservative when they interpret the law."
And that's the thing that pisses me off about them. They refuse to admit that it's store policy, and instead try to pull bullcrap about legality. They'd have a lot more goodwill if they were more honest with their customers.

But, arguing with the guy is pointless wether you are right or wrong. Its their store and their rules. Its just best to say thank-you and take your money elsewhere. But, if you want a 1911, M&P, or Sig, or just about any other pisol on the Roster, Turner's is hard to beat price-wise.

                +1 to what Bongos said.

All Turners are not created equal. The one off the 78 in Escondido/San Marcos is pretty good to deal with. I've been there a few times, never (yet) a bad experience. Still, they (Turners) aren't gun shops, they're sporting goods stores, and the counter help is usually young and hasn't worked there for years, so what do you expect?

My MO is to look at what a place has in stock, and act accordingly. You go in Ade's, and he has OLL rifles for sale with BB's installed, you know he knows what's what. You go in Turners or Big 5 and it's mostly deer rifles and duck guns, don't expect them to know their way around the CA AW laws. You hear FUD from the counter help, politely tell them they are not exactly correct and need to do some research to be sure they aren't giving out bad info. Leave it there. Don't embarass anyone. It won't help anything.

                JMHO.

I agree. Turners has always been good to me at my local location. I shop all over So Cal for my gun hobby, but Turners has always been decent to me. To lump all the stores, and the employees, and the people that shop there into one description is very untruthful.

Why would you want to ship a lower to turner's when you have far better options in or around the L.A.C area?

Mostly every calgunner here has the mindset to know that (Most) Turners around So. Cal want nothing to do with OLL's. You can preach all you want to the folks behind the glass counter about Oll ar's and such, but at the end of the day, you'll just find yourself wasting time and breath.

I personally find turners (signal hill) a good place to do business with if it doesn't involve me asking about OLL's. I've bought many guns from them before and I'll probably buy more in the future.

The two OC Turners that I've shopped at have both been very good to me. Fountain Valley and Orange.

Though, I haven't shopped at the Orange one in a few years. But the FV one continually gives me good service.

At the FV Turners location once I checked out the Bushmaster Carbon-15, just because I had never played with one before. The guy behind the counter and I were talking, and he started saying something about the gun being the only CA-legal, etc etc.. I corrected him and said "Only FACTORY CA-legal AR", and he backed down, consented, and agreed with me.

Even if all AW laws were struck from the books tomorrow, Turners is not the kind of shop that would carry lowers. Period. They would only carry factory, fully-assembled rifles and handguns. They wouldn't carry handgun frames either. That's just not the type of business they do.

Go to Turners for a great deal on factory-fresh guns. Nothing more. And the FV location has great service as well!

If you have ever worked in a gunstore....you will understand why they spread FUD. Because they believe what they have been told not what they have read.

Most gun stores have a steady flow of LEO's (many new). When gun store employees and customers talk these LEO's ussually like to pet up whats "legal" and not.

Some of the time they are wrong.

Some LEO's really like me and thank me for giving clarification to gun laws, others hate me for making them look stupid because I have no problem telling them they are wrong and to re-read the PC. Most gunstore employees just take it as gospel.

I believe they used to pay cost +10% but now it is a much lower discount. I think they also wand their employees with a metal detector before they leave.

Don't get me started on their PPT issues.

I know someone that has been working there since at least the early 1990's I belive in a P/T situation for much of that time. So turnover is not 100% but it is high. Signal Hill and FV have some long term employees also.

Does he sell lowers? IIRC No. And I think a lot of the OLL type builds there are consignments. And Ades many times does not know "whats what" thought they are better on OLL than Turners as regards to legality knowledge.

One time I was in Ades and he did not know how to operate/clear a Davis derringer which I found strange.

ade's is a good gunshop he dosen't know everything no one does. some have knowledge geared to a specific type of firearm for example i know a lot about ak's and sks's but almost nothing about shotguns and hunting rifles. btw turners is next to useless for evil black guns. i just use them for handguns. i was there on saturday picking up an xd9 and this guy came in and was asking about a stag m4 type rifle and the clerks gave him the usual FUD i had a very hard time keeping a straight face!

It used to be cost +10% for everything. There also used to be some discounts from the manufacturers that were EXCELLENT but limited to like 1 gun a year. E.G. Both Benelli and S&W offered what amounted to half off of retail for 1 gun per year. Surefire also gave you 50% off any flashlight once a year.
