There are also fairly inexpensive pulse ox units on Amazon we got one for 29.00 and my Sister who is in a medical field tested them and ended up buying a bundle for her office since they were accurate and affordable.

Be careful with that/ Not sure what model she got but I had a 50-$80 one I tested side by side simultaneously with a $30,000.00 LP15 and the cheap pulse ox was basically useless. Not even close and didn't follow a rhythm. Random.

These guys will sell you one over the internet. However, anyone considering using oxygen should get some training to understand how to avoid acute and chronic oxygen toxicity.

Oxygen Units

Oxygen emergency medical kits are required (by dive certification agencies, not the government) for all dive boats, scuba instructors, scientific and commercial dive operations. Therefore, it is easy to get oxygen cylinders and refills. I keep a large cylinder in my garage with a booster pump so I can refill my rebreather tanks without getting raped at the local dive shop.

Are you a dive boat or SCUBA instructor or in a situation where it would be required? If you are, there you go. If not, just because you can, doesn't mean it's allowed. Medical grade O2 is RX only.

Do get around to it, available O2 when diving may save your life as you know it. About 5 years ago my dive buddy, Master Diver, had a freak DCS event, we dove the same profile, all within safety limits as I use the old fart setting on my confuser for the most conservative dive possible but during debrief he may have been slightly dehydrated as it had been 100 degrees the day before.

He self diagnosed and we put him on pure O2 as we mad dashed to the chamber.

80% resolved when we hit the chamber, but 7.5 hours in the chamber to be safe, DAN insurance was great and they called the next day as a followup.

As a SCUBA diver, and a certified rescue diver, and DAN member, I've often thought about purchasing some kind of supplemental oxygen system to keep with my first aid kit. But I never got around to it. Plus the medical systems are expensive.

I dont have asthma but I keep a albuterol inhaler in my BOB bag and one on me when we go hiking or on trips. One puff will open up your airways and make hiking alot easier. You will need a prescription for it but its a lot easier then carrying a O2 tank.

you will just need to adjust your lifestyle, Hunt lower elevations and if your hunting Deer think about hunting desert mule Deer both High and low Deserts have them along with plenty of upland game and Waterfowl.

Back in the day, I ran a SCUBA club. As many of the dive boats were relaxed on carrying O2 and or full O2 bottles... I had the club purchase 2 E bottles in case someone was stupid and got bent.

From what I recall from Dive Rescue classes and emergency classes..
For rescue needs, you would run at 15 Liters/ min

E cylinder - 660 liters capacity; 28” Long and weighs in around (12 LB full with a light carrying case)

So you had about 40 minutes from 1 bottle...

You can go the "old person" route and run the O2 at 2-3 Liters/min and extend the run time to maybe 5 hours....

One of the bigger concerns from my perspective is sleeping... without a CPAP type machine your O2 saturation while sleeping might be dangerously low and you might show signs of sleep apnea... extra loud snoring- gasping for breath while asleep... this is extremely hard on the heart...

This closed circuit rebreather uses pure O2 on one side, kitty litter in the middle, diluent on the other side which can be rot gut air or other gas, as the computer can do tri-mix. Certification training, YES. RX for the O2, NO.

O2 can be purchased from any dive shop that services rebreathers and you have a Cert Card for rebreathers. We routinely blend geezer gas (Nitrox) using Pure O2 and rot gut, there is an APP for that.
