    collecting spent brass

    Hi,

Those of you who reload, how do you collect your spent brass at the range? From my experience, it flies everywhere and your brass intermixes with other people's brass. Do you use some sort of brass collector attached to your gun, or do you have some other tricks?

I'm planning to start reloading, or at least learn how to do it, and I don't see any reason to waste a perfectly fine Winchester or Remington brass.

    Thanks,

Pick up whatever you can. Ask your fellow shooters if you can have their brass. Also alot of people who want to save their brass mark it with a magic marker.

You can either ask people if they want their brass (I still always don't collect my brass), add a small brass catcher to your gun (they make them for ARs so I'm sure they're available for other guns) or setup a net . The most common way I've seen for people without a dedicated brass catcher is to use their rifle bag.

I used a brass catcher for a while - he was a nice fellow and a very hard worker.

I usually sweep the area around me before I start and pick up brass a few times during shooting. I sometimes mark my brass with a sharpie. Different color stripes across the back.

I still have not started reloading but I am collecting all of my brass and what ever other brass people don't want, I am a brass whore.

I don't really mark my stuff, I just tend to keep an eye of the general direction that my brass is landing and I normally pick it soon after I empty all the rounds in a mag.

Shoot one, pick one up, that's my general rule at indoor ranges. It makes it pretty tough to segregate your brass and to keep track of firings, but you can often cycle out your old multi-used brass for brand new brass if you follow this rule. When we're outdoors, if my friends aren't going to reload, I take their brass. No sense in leaving it behind.

I am a brass whore. I pick up everything. I have all the .223 seperated out and about 3-4k of it. I also have a 30gal trash can 3/4 full of misc brass. I figure I can bring it to the recycle place.

I don't know if all brass is reloadable, haven't got that far yet. I have nowhere to put a reloader right now, but one day I will.

i go shoot by myself sometimes and collect my brass everytime i finish a mag,so its not too hard to find.my ar brass catcher kind sucks,so i have to use the cardboard target as a block or just pick them up one by one.most of the time i go with a couple of other shooters,so i usually get 3-4x more brass at a time
cant wait till i start to reload

I am also guilty of being a "brass chicken". I usually pick up after very few mags. I also don't reload yet but when I start I am going to have a nice collection of .45 and .223.

Heck, I sometimes pick up after every shot! Yes, this means that I only load 1 round into the mag at once. Why? Well, 10mm brass is hard to come by..

Mark the brass with a Sharpie marker.
