Guy blows his own hand off with KSG 12ga when VFG fails

The vertical foregrip came loose when the rail lock device sheared off as he was racking the slide and his hand slid forward as he pulled the trigger. Probably rapid firing. Be careful using VFGs on pump shotguns, especially if they are bullpups.

I never really knew the reason that I avoided Kel-Tec and ProMag... until today.

There is a reason pump shotguns are designed the way they are. I'll bet everyone has had a hand slip off the slide. I know I have when shooting my 500 with slugs (ouch).

This design seems dangerous in short barrel bull pup design. It always made me wounder why folks just didn't buy a auto-loader .

You'd figure that aiming and squeezing is much easier than than aiming/racking/manipulating, particularly for rapid fire. (I suspect he was trying to be cool and rapid fire this shorty shotgun).

also why put a VFG on a shotgun? i guess i am not operator enough, the only advantage i see in having a VFG on the pump is being able to cycle the gun one handed against a wall or something if you other arm is disabled.

Isn't it on me to properly maintain, inspect and all that other stuff?
Devastating injury. No getting around that. At least it wasn't his dominant hand.

Sounds to me like the shotgun functioned as designed. A round was chambered and fired when the trigger was pulled. What failed was the vertical grip that was not designed for that particular use. A plastic vertical grip is not designed for stresses put on it by racking a slide... especially when "hotdogging" as one poster mentioned. I can see how it failed. I feel for the user tho.

I see a disclaimer added into the instructions or on the gun itself about not using it with vertical grips.

As horrible as this injury sounds, and I would never want it to happen to me, I'm going to be totally jealous if he gets a "Luke Skywalker" robot hand to replace his "Officer Murphy" hand.

                            And yeah, lawsuit? Really?

So, he pulled the trigger while his support hand was forward of the muzzle? Sounds like operator error to me.
