    CLP alternative for Iraq

    Hey Gents,

Long time no see, anyways. Is there something other than CLP that I can use to clean and lube my rifle here in Iraq? The sand storms here cake my rifle with dust and it gets pretty annoying when the CLP I use to clean it, picks up the dust like a magnet. Is there a dust repelling product out there or am I stuck with having to clean my rifle endlessly? You should see the amount of dust our machine guns pick up every convoy, its ridiculous. Are there shipping restrictions to any of these products if I were to order them online? Thanks Calgunners.

I use CLP everytime when I was there.. Just use it to clean your rifle. Once done cleaning, wipe everything down dry, and put a light, light coat of CLP on the bolt.. Never had a problem since...

Anyways, stay safe out the Marine!!

You should be able to score some Mil-Com TW-25B lube where you are. It is a standard lube for Mk-19s so you should be able to get it through regular supply channels. It is a light Teflon grease and won't gunk up with dust the way CLP will.

If possible, find the Infantry guys in your AO, especially the multi-deployment combat vets. They're the best ones to ask.

                Good luck, and good hunting.

Never been to Iraq, but I do use a spray-on graphite lube that is dry.

                  Works well.

and for the love of god, will the mods change his screen name to CPL Huynh? I feel like I have to get in the push up position and get some everytime I see the Screen name of LCPL instead of CPL!!

Used it on my M2HB's. Found that it would dry/flake off in the heat in time. The sand/fine dust still coated my guns. I ended up using a spray bottle of CLP and wiping down the exposed surfaces until dry to the touch. You cant really get around the dust. Just check you weapon regularly and keep it clean as best you can.

Have you tried Eezox? It is a dry lubricant that is very good at resisting rust. I don't like the smell, but it might work well in your environment.
