    Second proof of address?

What's up brothers. I did a ppt of a shotgun from another calguns member and the firearm store wants a second proof of address? I've never had to do this, my address is current on my cdl and I'm a federal Leo. Is a hunting license acceptable? The utility bill is in my old ladys name and all my vehicles have my mom as a Co register and at her address, been like that since I was in the army. Thanks for the help!

As the shop what they will accept. Many shops have rules that are a bit more...focused... Than the ca DOJ and ATF

Will they accept a letter from your employer on letter head or you pay stub?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

This is my understanding, as well. A hunting license won't do, unfortunately. It has to be a license issued by a federal agency containing both the address on your normal ID/driver's license and an expiration date. I use my HAM radio license, as odd as that is. A common workaround is to print up a standard lease agreement with your current address and both your name/signature and that of your "landlord's", even if that person isn't really your landlord, as long as the addresses match. That's what I did way back in college when I was still living with my parents. I wasn't technically renting from them, but it did work as proof of residency and no one that's going to see it actually cares, they just need *something* to cover their bases.

So you are co-registered on vehicles meaning your name is on it as well and they still won't take it. That's dumb! I have used my co-registered registration many times. (Joint registered with my wife)

Guys, this is not a law. This is a store policy therefore it is unlikely that anything in POR list by CA will 100% be accepted or not. The only person who can answer what will be acceptable is the FFL. If he is going on the Handgun POR list put out by the DOJ the only acceptable forms will be lease agreement, property deed, vehicle registration, utility bill or a government issued license bearing the purchaser's name, address, and an expiration date.

If you go by federal law, in a case where the purchaser's address is not correct, than only a government issued document would work. So government issued documents I mentioned above or one could use something like a CA DMV Information Request Form.

However, since this isn't a law and simply a store policy. It would be best to call the FFL and find out what he will accept because Calguns won't mean anything to him.

If you don't like it too bad. He invested his time, his money, his life into his business and he should be able to set whatever policy he pleases.

The bottom line is that you have to satisfy the FFL if you are going to do business with him. Ask what he will accept. This sometimes has nothing to do with the requirements stated in State and Federal law.

Law says second proof of residence required for Handgun transfer. Doesn't matter. Provide what the FFL requires or go somewhere else.

It doesn't have to be from a federal agency, and it doesn't have to be a license of any kind.

And a lease agreement, unless you live in a federal government owned building, is neither from a federal agency, nor a license.

Thanks to all of the responses. Yea it's just a shotgun transfer. I wonder if one of my leave and earning statement will do? Its my first time going to this shop. If anything I will just write up a lease agreement.

Utility bill usually suffices for me when I purchase handguns.

Try getting one of the Utility bills under your name. Usually they want a govt municipality to verify, i've been through this alot of times. If you have a C&R FFL3 , that can work too, since the ATF requires current addresses on the license. Vehicle Registration will take a while, but you can also ask your mom that you're gonna go to the DMV and do the address change on the spot, it'll cost you a small fee, but at least you get it over with\ that same day, except suffering through the DMV lines unless you can get a quick dmv appointment.

Good luck OP, sorry to hear that the LGS is just being anal about that, long guns shouldn't be that strict, only handguns
