Went to the opening of Levi stadium last night, Dept of Homeland security where everywhere. Took almost an hour to go threw metal detector line and they searched my girlfriends entire purse, Felt like I was going to an airport(seriously)

Very bad MoJo to pollute an AMERICAN "Football" stadium with girly-man 'soccer' for first game.

My sources on the streets tell me the area is 'disputed territory' between the two main Mexican street gangs (Blues/Reds) but before this there wasn't much to squabble over.

I predict a massive misdirected LE effort for first 49ers games.

Gangs will take their fight elsewhere, police will target regular 'sightseeing' public and non-ticket holding tailgaters as if they were gang members.'

Place will get bad name, City of Santa Clara on hook for several BILLION when interest is included. Voters will vote to tax businesses. Biz will flee to neighboring towns.

SWMBO and I went to the game last night too. We took the VTA to the stadium. There was increased security on the train. Probably not a bad idea because we had lots of annoying drunk soccer fans on our train. There was a lengthy delay at the preceding stop because the train ahead of us hadn't emptied out. I suspect this will be a bigger problem in the future as more people use mass transit.

Once we arrived, we realized that they closed off all of Tasman and set up the metal detectors in the middle of the road. The metal detector setup was horrible. There were no turn-styles or line management systems. You stood in a mob of people and slowly nudged forward until you reached one of the five magnetometers they set up. Only then did you see some semblance of order take shape. Of course, the lines were held up because of people who brought too much crap to a stadium (women with big purses and girly-men with fanny packs) and they made these people empty out all their junk before letting you through.

The traffic on the way out was horrid too. We had to walk a long way down Tasman, only to then double-back to get on the VTA. There was a good wait for the train to depart, and lots of empty VTA buses sitting on Tasman with "Out of Service" displayed on the bus. WTF are out of service buses doing on the road besides taking up space?!?!

After we got on the VTA and the train started moving, we saw LOTS of stopped cars on side streets well away from the stadium. No one was moving.

That soccer game was about 2/3 of the stadium capacity. The traffic and crowding is going to be significantly worse in two weeks when football starts. I won't leave the house all day when the Super Bowl is held here. Screw that!

We went to the 49ers-Cardinals game in Phoenix last December. They were significantly more organized with the security and traffic management. We parked off-site and took a courtesy shuttle to the stadium. They set up plenty of signs at the parking lot detailing prohibited items and bag restrictions so you had a chance to go back to your car if necessary.

Give it time, and I'm sure that Levi's will do the same.

Stadiums and their owners AND their insurance carriers are more than a little concerned about liability issues. The 'foreseen acts' issues at sporting events now cause these owners to spend mega bucks on security. They're not going to 'accommodate' when that could be construed as 'fault' in a courtroom. And don't forget CA has a history of lawsuits at these crowd events.

It's clearly here to stay.

That stadium is in the heart of Silicon Valley. I haven't seen any street gangs hanging out between Intel and Cisco. The economy is booming there; they sold out the season tickets at a cost of $80,000 per seat (tickets not included).

And traffic gonna really suck on weekdays.
