At the range question

If I'm chatting with somebody at the range and they express an interest in what I'm shooting I'm happy to offer them a go with my gun(s). I usually load a half or a full mag for them depending on how much ammo I have. It's nice to be on the reciprocating end of that too. Last week I got to shoot this guys FN 5.7 and Volquartsen Scorpion. I had never even seen those guns in person before.

I usually let people shoot my guns. By the time they ask, I have usually watched them in their own lanes to see if they are safe and somewhat know what they are doing.

I always let others shoot my guns. I've lost track of how many have fired my 50BMG or one of my belt fed. I was at the range one day and gentleman was there teaching his daughter to shoot a handgun for protection. Her son was there bored, but behaving, so I took a 22 rifle down to them and let the kids shoot it for the next hour. I stayed with them until I was sure he and his grandfather where good with it and then went back to shooting my handguns a few lanes down. The kid went home with a smile and grampa planned on buying him a new rifle.

I've had a couple great experiences with swapping weapons for a mag or two. It's fun to try out different things. It's all part of the shooting and show n tell experience.

I've loaned my Marlin LTR to about 30 people at Appleseeds over the years.

On the public line, probably two dozen folks have gotten to run a clip or more through my M1 Garand, five or so on my M1917 and several on my M1 Carbine.

In return, I've gotten to try out a Krag, a Lone Eagle (.308 pistol thunder!), AR-10, all sorts of cool stuff.

Once I had a pistol grip shotgun out just for fun. That was awfully popular with the kiddies!

Anyone with a good attitude that's polite may share my guns, ammo included. I've seen quite a few gals look my way (in her group) now & then I'll offer a shot or two. They usually smile & get a free shot or two. .308's included. If they wanna try & have a good attitude, have at it.

I shoot .308 but still consider it a .300 mag set on stun(LOL) I let people shoot my guns at range if they are polite about it.

I do for most of my guns. I have a few that are worth so much that an additional mark reduces value a couple hundred dollars.

Honestly, this is one of the reasons I love shooting - the fellowship of other gun owners. I offer up any firearm I bring to the range to anyone who shows interest and respect. I've also been blessed to have many folks return the favor and in doing so, their generosity has introduced me to firearms I might otherwise have never tried, considered, and subsequently purchased.

To all of the posters above, thank you for taking the time and expense to share our hobby with others.

So do let strangers shoot your guns at the range???

This last Sunday Alameda NRA MC put on a "FunShoot" for non and novice shooters. Fifteen complete strangers shot my AR and they loved it.

At other times, as a general rule, all they have to do is ask and I'll let them shoot whatever I have that strikes their fancy.

(A side note on the AR15: more women than men want to shoot it; I don't know why but I do think it's a good thing. The most important figure in a developing child's life is the mother. If she isn't afraid of guns, the kids won't be either.)

I dont. Your still liable for your own gun even if they do something stupid with it.

Or if it fails and hurts someone. I don't trust strangers and certainly not with one of my firearms. The legal implications are enough to prevent me from "loaning" a gun to anyone I don't know or trust.

I have shot many stranger's guns at ranges, when they offered to let me shoot them

And I have also offered to let them shoot my guns

However, the key word is "offered"

I think it's rude to "ask" to shoot someone else's guns.

If someone shows an interest in a gun I am shooting, I more than likely will offer to let them shoot it, unless they appear to be too goofy.

I might say to someone, "nice gun", "what are you shooting?" etc.

But I wouldn't come right out and ask to shoot it, I'd wait to see if they offered.
