BJs Brewhouse Anti Gun

I for one love BJ's Brewhouse. Great beer, and $3.50 beers at lunch which is why I always go there for lunch.

I'll test their wifi when I go there tomorrow. I was going to bring my laptop. I was told by my friends who are teacher's in CA public schools that my personal blog is blocked by the schools' firewall for "firearms and adult content". I'm curious to see if BJ's blocks my blog.

Of course, after I run my test, I'll launch my Cisco VPN client to get full access to the interwebs.

I don't see the point of boycotting a business because of what their wi-fi blocks. As stated above, business's need to protect themselves from lots of internet crap and it's just how it works. The restaurant I work at does the same thing and I can't view Calguns and a ton of other websites that you'd be surprised of as well...such as Barclay's Premier League Fantasy Soccer!! It's just how it works. I choose to use my iPhone's LTE or 4G network everywhere and don't ever turn my wifi on except for my private one at home.

Headed to BJ's for a beer and to peruse Calgun's on my phone with no issues whatsoever..........

If this is all you need to boycott an establishment, don't send your kids to public school or spend any time at your local library. Similar filters are used on a number of places that provide public wifi.

I guess my question is why you feel that if someone is allowing you to use something they own you should be able to do whatever you want with it? Maybe if it weren't free you might have some case there, but it's free. I don't see the point to your complaint. If you don't like the restrictions of the network, then maybe don't log into calguns when you're eating? Or invest in a mobile hotpot? Freedom of choice my friend.

Might as well start boycotting all banks, restaurants and every major corporation that makes your televisions, gadgets and everything you use on a daily basis because almost everyone of them have wifi filtering systems in place for their workers to not surf porn sites and other subject matter... Including gun sites. I don't get this argument at all.

Dude, you don't know what you are talking about. This is not them making a conscious and deliberate decision to do that. Business rated firewall software automatically blocks weapons sites just like they block porn sites. So some IT guy installed a high-end firewall to protect both their customers and their company from viruses and malware. A side-effect of that which they probably never even considered or even knew about is that weapons related sites would also be blocked along with file sharing and porn sites.

Not everything is a conspiracy. Learn how things work in the world before trashing the good name of business. Your comments border on liable. You could be sued. You are making claims about their views which most likely are not true, based on something you didn't even both to ask the staff about, and encouraging others not to bring their business there. People have found themselves in court for less.

I strongly suggest changing the title and content of your post until you know more about how and why this happened before you end up getting yourself into a heaping mess of hot water.

He's actually got it right. That's exactly how enterprise firewall software works, especially if the business is not at all interested in keeping its own staff to manage it. They contract out to a service that will block all the likeliest types of sites that are malware carriers.

This is a business decision, not a political one. Besides, their business is to sell food, not wifi. If you're really hurting to get on those sights, switch to your cellular data.
