Goodbye to my collection for 4 months!

I recently got the opportunity to travel and study abroad in Australia for the semester. Everything worked out, and I could not pass up such an awesome opportunity. I figured I should go travel and see as much as possible before im too locked down with a serious career etc.

The past few weeks a buddy of mine and I backpacked around the south Island of New Zealand and it was awesome. Now im all settled into my apartment on the gold coast of Australia. Its pretty amazing here! I know there are some photographers here, so maybe ill post some of my pics up (Im just a novice, so some of ur skills blow me outta the water, but did get a chance to see some pretty amazing things!).

The only bad thing is that I had to say goodbye to my guns for a while. I doubt ill see a firearm for the next 4 months while here, so you guys will have to tide me over with pics etc when im having withdrawls!

It was a bit sad, but I cleaned and lubed em up real nice so they will be waiting for me when I get back. It will be interesting going that long with out being able to fire/hold/clean/etc any of my babies! As a substitute, im planning on traveling alot, taking up surfing, and going scuba diving as much as possible (just got my certification in the states before headin out). Im pretty excited to say the least.

Anyhoo, keep the pics/stories/info comin cause it has to tide me over till december!

    Cheers!

you know, thats kinda selfish....your guns probably miss you too and NEED someone to shoot them, clean them, and make them feel loved....My BF and I will HAPPILY "gun sit" for you! We promise to take them out, play with them, shoot em, clean em and keep them in our safe nice and safe. We live in the bay area...it wouldn't be a big problem....anything for a fellow Cal Gunner!

Can't stand to help a fellow Calgunner. Please send your babies to me and I will make sure I feed them well. Oh and I'll need their favorite food too.

Well if you ever need trigger time while in Austrailia, I'm sure you go shoot some airsoft to scratch that itch?

The worst thing is the fact that I purchased my first 1911 (a springer 1911 stainless loaded) about a month ago, and only had time to shoot it once before leaving... Once! I still think it was a good choice though. I got a great deal on it, and I will probably come back to the states flat broke! ;-)

What are the gun laws like in Australia and New Zealand.

They are still both largely a rural society but have large liberal biased metropolises.

From the crocodile dundee movie one would surmise firearms ownership in most of Australia and New Zealand is kosher. Also up through the Vietnam war the men from those countries made good soldiers due to their firearms familiarity.

Have you made it to a gun store or range?

How are you going to cast your ballot for the election in November? Via the Embassy?

                  Register absentee hopefully.

Enjoy. I just got back from a few months across the pond in the land of hoplophobes and crumpets; it's amazing how quickly you miss your guns when you never even see any in society .

You know, I am not really quite sure as I havent looked into it yet. I have heard that their gun laws are pretty strict, so I didnt even think about bringing any of mine.

Havent seen a gunshop yet or been to a range yet, but im gonna look into it for sure!

Study abroad is fun to do because you get to go study broads. I did my study abroad at Griffith Uni on the Gold Coast. I lived in Surfer's Paradise and it was awesome. What school are you going to?

The day before I left, me and my dad went shooting and shot just about everything we had. I missed shooting a lot while over there. There is an indoor shooting range in the mall in Surfers but its mainly for Japanese tourist. If I remember correctly it was something like $50 aussie for 50 rounds through a Ruger MkII. I missed shooting but not that much.
There was a private gun club near Brisbane that might be worth looking into.
You can always meet locals and go wild pig hunting and even for roos. They are like squirrels to us, shoot em all when you go in the right areas.

Go talk to Ruth in Southport at the Gold Coast Dive Centre about scuba diving. She is a great lady and set me up with a lot of great dive trips.
Man I wish I was back there. Enjoy it, it goes by fast!

O sweet, Im studying at Bond Uni. So far its pretty awesome (well its basically been vacation since today was my first day of classes). I bet living at surfers was absolutely amazing. Luckily im just a few minutes down the road, so im planning on spending a lot of time down there.

Its funny that you mention that shooting range in the mall. I was wondering around Surfers yesterday and was all excited when I saw signs for Shooting Range. After further inspection I realized that it was prolly just a touristy type thing. O well... Hopefully I can meet some locals who like to go out and shoot, cause that would be great.

And thanks for the dive tip. I was just about to start looking for dive trips that are available. Ill have to look up the Gold Coast Dive Center right away!

Let me know if u have any other tips for success, cause id love to hear em!

                              Thanks again!
