Two is one, and one is none.

Also, AKs can fail and so can Glocks!

This is an understatement. Wow! I vote for one nice one and ammo.

When i wanted an AK variant, I went with a Gen 2 SIG 556R. It's bad azz

but the Sig 556R is NOT an AK variant. in fact, all the parts sans the magazine are proprietary and the 556 series of rifles has mixed reviews. for the cost of a 556r, I'd get an Arsenal or (gasp) a WASR and some ammo

Two of them for sure. What if one goes down or you need to arm a family member? Or barter it for food, ammo or anything? Get two decent ones as AK is inherently all good.

Theres a few other use for firearms (during SHTF) that I think you missed... Theyre not exactly legal but whose gonna enforce anything post-SHTF?

Not that I advocate that. But if I had 2 AKs, no way in hell would I trade one.

laws do get enforced in SHTF look at what happened (to gun owners) during and after hurricane Katrina.
laws wouldn't be enforceable in a WROL situation, I don't recall any times in recent history in which there was a WROL situation--LA Riots maybe?

I'm fairly new to ak, and I'd say gimme 2. I regret waiting so long. Its my favorite rifle. Once you work out the bugs on these things, they are indestructible. Its probably wrong to say this on the 4th, but I'd take 2 ak over 5 ar if given that offer.

What kind of quirks do AKs have?

Generally speaking, I will always choose quality over quantity.

But, if I was in a situation, lets say, where I needed to outfit myself or the family for the zombie apocalypse and I had a pistol budget of $1300 ish, then I would probably buy 2 M&P's/Glocks over a single nice 1911. This would enable me to arm more of the family and have backup in case one gun went down.

Assuming, however, that you have your bases covered for the apocalypse and such, then get a really nice AK.

Whats the difference between a decent AK and a nice one? Accuracy, reliability, or just fit and finish?

For me, one nice AKM for a while & then save up for a second nice one
Not quite $1k rifles but not $400-500 either.
