i'd probally go with a stag or spike lower it's cheaper but it gives you the option to get him a lower parts kit as well. This way the ar15 is near half way. or you get get him one of the higher priced lowers and a houge grip.

So am I understanding right that I can purchase a lower and have it shipped to someone with an FFL and then have it put in my boyfriend's name by him going down and having the background check done after? Or does the background need to be done prior? Thanks for all the suggestions. Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll post one too. He's a member here.

Ok, I am getting a few lowers right now. I am using Dan Gussler at Gussler's out in Santee. He is charging (IIRC) a $25 Dros and $30 per receiver. That is the best deal I have found in the county so far. My receivers are coming from Anvil Arms, one of the companies suggested by the people here. They run $100 each, and you can have almost anything you want laser-engraved on it for free. Dan also had recommended ColdWarShooters.com as another company he regularly does business with. They have a Mega Tactical receiver for $99. ANd you can find even cheaper ones in Shotgun news, but you will have to check to see that they are off the list before you order them.

Now, as for what to do with the BF. You contact Gussler's. They are in the phone book. Tell him that you want to order one, and that it will be a gift for your BF. Most likely all you will have to do is drag him down there to fill out the paperwork instead of you. Not a big deal. As for the rest, midwayusa.com has some lower receiver kits for around $60. No FFL needed. And you can get him a Bullet Button magazine lock elsewhere online for $25, which is the FIRST thing he needs to put on his receiver before he adds any other parts. After that, either he or you can get one of the upper receiver kits. I am still looking for the best deals on those atm, so I can't help with that yet. Good luck!

I happen to think these are one of the best values for lowers...
