It seems that every profession has guys like this. They might do great work, but when they keep your property for an inordinately lengthy period of time and either fail to adequately communicate with you or continually miss stated deadlines, with or without excuses, it is simply not acceptable. Why people choose to do business with people like this is beyond me.

SO, WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?Kyle "Kenosha Kid" Rittenhouse did nothing wrongComment

OP... How long did you have the guns? What time frame did you quote when you accepted the commissions?Well I was floored reading this review, which is by CalGun member Doc Hawk, as to how many lies there is in it and that how someone could look themselves in the mirror.
This is the same Doc Hawk that was applying for his CCW but I guess with the out right lies in this Yelp post he won't pass the "good moral character" part.
Here is his post from Yelp:
First if you read his post on CalGuns about me funny how he "forgot" to mention he had work done by me, like stated on Yelp, as well as lie about what happened with his "friend".
Originally quoted by Doc Hawk
He somehow has to drag my mother into this when the whole issue was my health ....... funny how he never mentions that on Yelp. It was bad enough most of his CalGuns post was filled with false lies but the Yelp review takes the cake. Doc Hawk's "friend" actually got his rifle back not only fully coated but I also completely reassembled it with a significant discount (it was a "80%" that he had never assembled from a kit). I even coated some additional parts for him at no charge to match his Cerakote. That is something Doc Hawk also seems to forget to mention along with posts by other customers on CalGuns about getting their firearms back fully completed and in good working order.
One funny thing he states as proof of being a customer is the one firearm brand in a pistol that I have only Cerakoted once ...... for a women in Temecula in pink.
Doc Hawk seem to also somehow hack my computer and got my customer list and called all my customers, who all told him that everyone of them had their firearms damaged or destroyed (even the ones that gave me 5 stars). He also seems to have a hidden camera in my shop and can tell that I never work on anything and am never busy, that firearms just repair themselves ..... ohh wait they all got destroyed he said so I guess I would not be busy.
Well just thought this would be interesting for you guys to see how just one person spreading lies can affect your business and tie you up and have to make responses and getting lawyers involved.
Some people I guess have no shame.
According to several Calgunners, your turnaround time and communication habits leave much to be desired and you have not addressed either complaint in your post....

About a month ago the OP posted about his return from recovery from health issues. He also mentioned he's trying to stay online more. If you search, I think you'll find the thread.
Personally, I don't think the problem is bad customers who lie on public forums, it's the naive ones who believe the lies. Believe it or not, before the wobbly world web became popular for the layman to vent and write their opinions as canonical truths, gunsmiths would do good work and people would learn about them from other customers. People would hear from someone at the range talk about the work done on his 1911 or CZ and the gunsmith that did the work, then shoot a magazine from the gun and their eyes would light up. Another gun owner would go seek out the gunsmith and have the same work done on their gun.
Now, people who have no personal experience would talk about gunsmiths, stores, or guns they don't own or even shoot like they're an expert, and naive people would believe them because they have a high post count or have been around a while. There are only a few people here on Calguns whose opinions or advice I would trust, and many of them don't post regularly.Comment

Most reputable Smith's will under-promise, and over-deliver. Quote 7 weeks, and turn-around your work in 5 weeks, which is how you turn first-time customers into repeat customers. It seems that every profession has guys like this. They might do great work, but when they keep your property for an inordinately lengthy period of time and either fail to adequately communicate with you or continually miss stated deadlines, with or without excuses, it is simply not acceptable. Why people choose to do business with people like this is beyond me.
On the opposite end, to over-promise and under-deliver is obviously the quickest way to absolutely ruin your reputation. In my opinion, the absolute worst thing you can do to a customer is not answer emails or phone calls, and when you have customers literally tracking you down via FFL information, then coming to your residence to demand that their property is returned, you have some serious problems.
At minimum, post a message on your website indicating why there will be a lapse in communication, or delays in commissioned work. If you don't have a website, answer the phone. If all else fails, something as simple as an automatic vacation response via email might hold an impatient customer over for another week or so.
Personally, I think this thread does more harm to Gunsmith Dan than good.Comment

Buyer beware. I would personally never pick a smith that didn't have excellent references and I would demand to see their work area. You can tell a lot from personal habits, are they neat and organized? Or, is their shop in disarray, dirty and the look of someone with too many pokers in the fire? Works in progress would be nice as well. I'm not aware of any rules or laws that prevent a gunsmith from sharing this level of discovery. They can cry about "my insurance won't let you in the shop" but that's when you run away.Western civilization represents the pinnacle of true human progress, and we should rightly be proud of it, delusional leftists be damned.

We know it's the family and the church not government officials who know best how to create strong and loving communities. And above all else we know this, in America, we don't worship government, we worship God.

GUYS read the original post:
THERE IS NO GUN DOC HAWK WAS NEVER A CUSTOMER TO BEGIN WITH.
That is why I posted his CalGuns post and the Yelp post .......... his Yelp post is complete fiction. DO you think he somehow "forgot" how badly I screwed up his pistol when he posted on CalGuns attacking me? He did not know anything about me just what was told to him by his friend .... which BTW HAS a CalGuns account and never posted anything and was completely HAPPY with his rifle (which I had for 3 months because First my health issue and the parts kit had parts out of spec and took some time to get everything to work correctly on his 80%).
A picture of a gun screwed up means NOTHING without a copy of the invoice, it could be done by anyone.
EVERY SINGLE customer of mine gets a written estimate AND a written invoice, infact I will not pickup a firearm until the customer receives the written estimate. The story about the sight being ruined and slide damaged interesting ......
BUT
I pretty much own every sight pusher for S&W, Glock, Springfield, SIG. HK plus I have a Meprolight Universial HD sight pusher as well. That and I ALWAYS tell my customers that night sights CAN NOT be Cerakoted.
This is why I started this thread because what his said on Calgun was already full of false facts but the Yelp post is almost all fiction, never happened in respect to him. Like I said just read the 2 posts and the fact there is not only no invoice but no invoice number posted.
As far as the move on comments ....... while I have for past stuff this is not past stuff .... his Yelp post is dated 6/26/14 ...... just a few days ago.
IN fact the other 1 star rating on Yelp is actually not a personal post ......... it was posted by the wife of an owner of a local gun shop in San Diego who I never meet and have no clue what she looks like. That one is being worked on by a local attorney so can not get into to many facts about t.Last edited by Gunsmith Dan; 06-28-2014, 10:08 AM.Comment

Dan although I understand the frustration of bad reviews, this thread was a very bad idea. You are trying to rebuild your business and reputation, stooping down to the level of the person who left this review will not help you achieve either of those goals.

Well, for revelation purposes and disclosure, rather than simply saying he lies to his points (and some that you didn't address) you should probably itemize the truths for each respective issue, otherwise some of your ambiguity about his complaints still leaves a residual element of probability to his claims.
That would be the better approach to squash the vitriol; don't leave anything to question.
I've seen plenty of unsubstantiated tales over the years about gun dealers and smiths, and having inside information about the issue knew full well that the accuser was so full of crap that it had gone to his head. But it would often bug me that the dealer or smith then never fully gave a detailed retort, so many of the claimant's issues went uncontested even when full bunk.-----------------------------------------------

you guys posted before I posted so read up a few posts for my reply.
As far as a bad business move ....... getting tired of being attacked when a lot of what has been posted were rumors and false facts by competitors.
BUT
This is so fake that for this person, who I have not met, to stoop this low that I have to call it out for what it is.Comment
