NO need, unless the ammo is in a confines space- chambered- then it is harmless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SlOXowwC4c

Has logic EVER stopped them before??

The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!

            Wingman,

Before a bunch of folks get all spun up over this, can you please cite the source of the "Rumor"?
If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.

              Well, it's not entirely harmless.

No, you will not be shot by cooking off rounds. But the powder is an accelerant. In quantity it can make a fire burn hotter and quicker. In that sense ammunition and some reloading components aren't any different from other flammable substances, and various fire codes already deal with storage of such in quantity.

Don't believe everything you see online. My Mom threw what she thought was a empty box into the fireplace. There was a loaded 380 round in it. When it blew she was in front of the fireplace. She had to have a chunk of brass removed from her arm, and the primer was located just under a inch in her leg. The bullet is not the only part that can hurt you.

I havent heard anything about that. I assume this will be only a voluntary if anything at all. The fire marshals/LAs only do "residential fire safety inspections" at the request of the home owner.

I was at TDS and a guy in Calfire shirt was talking about it. He said Calfire had a letter from southern ca senator asking about it. He felt the senator was looking for a loop hole to stop stock piling! I googled it but no info found. That's why I was asking here. I don't have a lot of ammo but, still would not want my name on a list!!!

Reloading components are different from ammo and need to be treated as such.

I seen loose ammo in many a house fire and your mom must have been pretty close that the casing, not the projectile, caused her injury. Had that been a house fire the casing would not have been an issue if it was hot enough to cause the round to cook off

The scary issue is a round chambered and the the barrel point horizontal

If this is true, it will be a first step in making it a crime to own more than xx number of rounds at any given time.

Really surprised they haven't done this yet.

Fire code doesn't have anything to do with personal possessions in the home unless a complaint is made. It can regulate construction like residential fire sprinklers and fire resistive construction but won't regulate what you have in your home unless it becomes an obvious nuisance.

the fire marshall has no jurisdiction inside your home to my knowledge. I'm a FF and all we have ever done is business inspections. We will help pre-fire plan a home for brush fires, but only at the request of the homeowner. Weed abatement could become an issue, but now I'm getting off track...

I don't see any way for the fire marshall to enforce something like that.

                              That's the bottom line.
I would have to mediate neighborhood pissing contests because someone didn't like the way another kept his yard. They couldn't get it through their heads that we can't make people clean out their yards outside of the declared brush abatement zone.
