Moving my guns?

If you are parking the truck and trailer at a motel at night be sure to park in a way that won't allow meth heads to unhook the trailer and tow it away. That happened to another Calgunner who was moving out of state.

How many guns? If it not too many I'd ask some friends or family to borrow cases. I have some cheap cases and if turned right I can usually fit two rifles in each. Otherwise I'd remove the scopes, wrap them up really well and put them in the safe.

Put the gun safe in the trailer up-right and up against the front wall (behind everything else you pack). Wrap the guns with blankets/towels/jackets, whatever. Fill any empty space in the safe with other towels, clothes...just pack it tight. Everything will be fine.

obviously it's a personal choice but imo every gun should have it's own, dedicated case. and glass optics should be in hard cases. btw, i'm considerably north of your 20+.

right now you have the luxury of time for planning this move- what if you had only a couple hours to evacuate?

Bubble wrap and packing peanuts ..in very generous amounts..

I would wrap them up in the safe, make sure they cannot shift around or touch each other, fill the voids with towels or such. Put a lock on the trailer hitch when you overnight. You should be fine

Thick blankets wrapped around each long gun. A thousand miles of vibrations in the trailer will cause damage if any of the guns touch each other. Use thick blankets not airline thickness blankets. The thin ones will wear through in a day's drive.

I would rather have the guns in the backseat or trunk of the car then in the trailer (even if in a safe). Just keep them all covered up (individually) in the backseat and then bury them under clothes. A bunch of towels wrapped around things in a backseat would look funny. A ton of clothes in the backseat looks funny but not like youre hiding anything.

Or you could make a semi flat surface with clothing and put diaper boxes on top. Nobody is going to think youre hiding stuff underneath diapers (even if still in box). Youll just look like a packrat. And a poor one. Which is perfect because you'd look like you have nothing worth stealing.

I agree with the direction of this thread: job#1 is securing the guns from theft. Keeping them free from damage is easier and there are many good solutions.

After reading another thread and this one I would make sure you have insurance if its a multi day trip.

Buy all the cases from walmart keep your receipt and when you get wherever your going put your guns back into the safe and return them with your receipt for a full refund !!! Gotta love walmarts return policy

Congratulations on leaving the state. High taxes, unchecked illegal entry, gangs, overcrowding and constant attempts to take away hard earned rights make this a difficult state to live in if you're aware and you are.
