no i bought 60 rnds from my local wally for something like $17.50 after tax just a few weeks ago

As the posts above say I also agree.
I feel sorry for the girl being raised(?) by such an idiot parent.
When I was young I* bought ammo all the time. My mother would drive me to the stores(we lived a long way from town) and wait in the car or do her shopping while I got what I needed with the little money I had.

If that was my daughter she would have been telling me what gun she wanted me to get her next and waiting for me to buy the ammo(not really as I reload except the tons of 22RF she shot) so we could go to the range or hunting.

I have no problem with buying ammo with her present or having her choose ammo with me there that she wants to choose she has been shooting since she was five years old I believe safety first with firearms. as most parents know dads shopping for girls clothing is uncomfortable so she has a phone I gave her some cash and was looking around the store. She text me and said she was done shopping already purchased her clothes and (ammo) , Don't get me wrong she got in major trouble . I follow set laws and instill them in my child I told her the actions she did could be deadly. The problem I have is that if something happens once it sure to have happend hundreds of times at the store . The reason I started this thread was to see if I followed the correct course of action , should I have contacted upland pd. I would hate to see some kid buy ammo and go on a spree

That's my point! Today prices on 223 are going back down. 8 months ago it was still riding the ammo shortage.

Don't get me wrong, I am totally for punishing bad behavior. That being said something here just doesn't add up.

ive never seen tula for much less than $0.25/round at walmart in the last 5-6 yrs

Why is this a problem?
The excessive number of laws we have on the books in California do not prohibit a teen from purchasing rifle ammo.
And parent should have the rifle properly stored in a DOJ approved container.

Thus the teen is left with ammo that cannot be used.

Unless the parent failed again and left rifles accessible to children.....

if some kid is going to go on a shooting spree, its probably going to be with his parents rifle or handgun and ammunition that was left accessable, im more concerned with why someone who is a threat would have access to the parents guns in the 1st place

rarely are these shootings done without some kind of indication that something is seriously wrong with the shooter beforehand

Yea it's the drug dealers fault the kid bought drugs too.

OP your daughter has been shooting for 8 or 9 years, knew enough to get the correct ammo and not come across as a child to the cashier, but didn't know she was too young to buy ammo?
The idea of preventing a spree shooter falls on a minimum wage part time worker is absurd. You want to know how to prevent it? You teach a respect for human life and personal responsibility to your child. Then you teach it to their friends, when the time comes to your grandchildren. This pass the buck responsibility crisis that is killing people now will be fixed in small steps. Take the first step and help lead the way.

ammo can be bought in bulk over the internet. so if its really a shooting spree your worried about i would quit worrying. its not like they sold her a gun. if someone is going to go on a shooting spree all the ammo in the world isnt going to help them if they dont have a gun. its your responsibility as a parent to control what your kids have access to, not the stores or the police dept. not trying to be rude but it sounds to me like you should be more involved with your daughter. lots of things about having kids are uncomfortable but they must be done. going to funerals and legal trials are uncomfortable too. sometime we have to make sacrifices so others dont have to.
