It's OK Tmatt, everyone has quirks. Just keep the oil off the ammo and out of the chamber, you will be fine. Glad you asked. Would hate to have good ammo go bad.
You, you, and you: Panic. The rest of you, come with me.
Incoming fire has the right of way.

People fire ammo from WW2 period that was not preserved with oil all the time its fine.
+1 to your over thinking this and may do more harm then good.

If you have to do something preserve it from oxygen.

I used to clean m16 rifles for free in Bosnia.
Hey friend, buddy ole pal, wanna help me clean a buncha rifles??? jk jk

Don't worry about it too much, live and learn and all that.

Keep your ammo clean, dry, and at a consistent temperature. Get some metal ammo cans, ensure the gasket is good, then fill em up!

your better off buying real ammo cans. add a pack of dissicant. plus the ammo cans stack up nicely.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

You don't have enough ammo if you can oil it in finite amount of time...
