    Ammo question...

I was curious as to some opinions on Calguns. I was wondering if I put a light coat of oil on ammo that I am storing or may not shoot for years if I could ruin it or not. I am not dousing it but simply wiping it off so to speak. I am very OCD about all of my firearms and ammo and I do this with every round I get before I send it down range. I have found quite a few cracked cases and defects over the years too. Thanks for the feedback guys.

You are asking for trouble!Just store your ammo in an airtight container and you'll be fine.
I have ammo from the late 30s that looks like it just rolled off the line and its stored in a ammo can,no oil!
    Keep it simple!

As has already been mentioned numerous time oil can be very bad for your ammo if it seeps in and fouls the primer and or powder. You will find that old ammo stored properly and kept dry will be ok virtually decades if not exposed to harsh elements.

Allot of older Chinese and Russian ammo used to be sprayed with a lacquer that sealed them against water and to this day you still smell it when you open the metal ammo cans there are stored in.

                Bad bad bad!

You want clean, dry, non-oiled cartridges and a clean, dry, non-oiled chamber. The brass is supposed to expand and grip the chamber wall when fired to properly create a seal.

It happens it about 1:100 shooters.
You get then close to bullets, guns, and oil.

Vacuum seal is you want. Still a waste of time and plastic.

Oil is the one thing that will contaminate a primer and destroy your ammo.

If you're that worried about long term storage, get some of these and throw them in with the ammo.

                              Explanation

It's just something in my head that tries to prevent things from going bad or rusting. The military loved me but the rest of the world thinks I'm a freak! 😬
I used to clean m16 rifles for free in Bosnia.
