Why no 12G in Sales?

I briefly browsed the ammo section and saw no shotgun ammo until page 3. why is that?

Is there no profits for ammo flippers in 12 gauge or are the store overstocked with this stuff? It seams to be all 22LR, 5.56, 7.62, 9mm, 45, 40

Because it's not hard to come by and most people aren't going through as much buckshot and slugs as they do 9mm, .22lr, 5.56, etc?

12 gauge shotgun ammo hasn't been hard to find at all unless there's some specific load you're looking for.

yep; not hard to get. My Walmart has a variety of 12g in stock whenever I look. Some of the pretty inexpensive stuff too.

In addition to the fact that 12 gauge ammo has generally been more available than pistol and rifle ammo, there's also the problem of variety. There are A LOT of different types of 12 gauge shells, such as:

1. Shell length. 2 3/4", 3" and 3.5". If you're a ammo flipper, do you stock them all?

2. Shot type. Birdshots, buckshots and slugs. Many choices.....difficult to decide which type to stockpile.

3. Many different shot sizes. In all types of shots, there are also different shot sizes. No. 6. 7, 7.5, 8, 9 etc. for birdshots. 0, 00, 000 etc. for buckshots. Just some examples.

4. Different shot weights. 7/8oz, 1oz, 1 1/8oz etc. just to name a few common ones (there are more...).

5. Different shot loads. 1145fps, 1180fos, 1200fps, 1250fps etc. Just to list some examples. Which one do you stock?

As you can see, stockpiling shotgun shells isn't something your typical ammo flipper can handle.

There's also the fact that there are fewer shotgun shooters compared to pistols and rifles. Shotguns are more difficult to master and most of the typical mall ninja, tacticool type range goers who are there wanting to impress their date won't want to chance it. If you don't mount the shotgun properly, there's a chance the recoil will hurt both your shoulder and slap you in the cheek, maybe even draw blood. Better to stick with a AR-15 or a 9mm pistol.

Plus, if you miss a paper target, most people won't notice it. But if you pull a clay and miss it, its there in the air for all the see you've just missed your shot, many don't like it because it makes them look bad. To make things worst, if you shoot trap for example, you'll be shooting in a squad with 4 others. If you keep missing while the other guys/gals are crushing/smashing/powdering their clays, it is not fun at all. It is safer and less embarrassing to sit on a bench with a rifle rest and a celestial telescope mounted on top and shoot at the 50 yards rifle lane.

even during the big rush i could always find ammo for my shotguns. its not hard to get in the stores so it cant be sold at a profit here.

This. They've had great deals on Rio buck and birdshot loads recently.
I imagine that because shotgun loads come in a plastic hull instead of a costly metal one, and the projectiles are also much easier to form, shotgun ammo remains at a lower relative price when total demand for ammo goes up. Its cheapness added to its bulkiness make it not profitable to store and flip.

WalMart and bass Pro shops has always kept a good stock of 20 and 12ga. I just wish the ammo companies would start making bulk packs for 410. I'd like to buy another 410 shotgun but its just to expensive to shoot.

Most folks don't shoot tactical 12 gauge very much....

Friends all seem to have a 12 gauge but they don't shoot it as, based upon a lack of technique, they get beat up too bad.

Nahh, it's really just a matter of less demand. For a little while birdshot loads were getting scarce(nowhere near the level of something like .22lr, or even 5.56 at the height of the panic), but I think that normalized real fast after people realized they weren't going to do much with 5,000 rounds of birdshot sitting in the garage other than go clay shooting, so there just wasn't any incentive for anyone to try and flip it.

It wasn't long after Sandy Hook that the forum was full of 12g ammo for sale. Walmart and other large vendors were completely out for about 2-3 months.

12ga isn't even behind the glass case at my local WM, just out in the open
