Just invite them for shooting and sushi after, whoever shoots better gets free dinner.

At a party just say "the discussion of politics and religion is PROHIBITED"
Pick your battles too, dont get into any discussion of the odds are against you, or the libtards out number you.
Tell your friends to SHUT UP ABOUT YOUR GUN COLLECTION, he tells someone you dont know and they tell someone that ends up robbing your place.
You could say at the next natural disaster/ riot/ zombie attack/ SHTF dont come to me for protection.

I am most grateful for the resources you guys have sent me, and for giving me the recurring theme of a confident, engaged discussion with people who are willing to listen.

I'd like to point out that the person who told my dinner guest I owned firearms didn't mean to put me in the spot. They've been okay with me shooting. I spoke with them earlier today about the dinner and they said that they meant it as a way to think about how a sane and lawful person such as myself wasn't a crazy person, and happened to own a gun. Just thought I'd add that since it seems relevant.

You guys have also given me a good political angle to look into in order to cover more facets about the experience of being a gun owner. I thank you for that also.

EDIT: The idea about inviting some friends out shooting is really gaining steam among the responses. I suppose at this point, it wouldn't hurt to make that happen a little sooner than I had planned.

When the accusations and assumptions start, if you're at your place hosting the party, you say:

"Wow, isn't this a great time we're having...too bad you have to go...NOW!"
          Sorry, not sorry.

im pretty outspoken when someone brings up 2a and guns in a bad light, ive turned a couple ex liberal friends into gun owning logical thinkers through conversation and showing them how to shoot...but ive also lost quite a few of what i considered friends with being strong headed about it

yeah i had something like that happen once. it was at my apartment had a few friends over and one of them brought some guy i don't know it was all good and he seemed cool until he spouts off with his "hate for all gun nutters". i calmly walked back to my room got a 1911 locked the slide back and walked out and placed it on the table in front of him. told him this is a pro 2A house and if he was interested in learning how to shoot i would gladly teach him. then i told him if he continued with his misplaced hatred he would be asked to leave. he never said another word for the rest of the afternoon. he just kept looking at the 1911 like it was going to load itself and start shooting.

Stay calm and don't get emotional like they do and maybe get some new friends.

                  Gun Violence

Since most anti types are afraid of "gun violence" (the remainder being control freaks) you might share this with them - http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=228984
You might also give them the example of Mexico where only the crooks (that being the Gov. and the criminals) have guns and the good citizens are prohibited from self protection/defense. They could always move there if they prefer those living conditions.
"To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead." Thomas Paine

"We keep you alive to serve this ship. Row well and live."

"Is that a desert country?" "No; a fat country; fat people." "You are not fat?" "No. I'm different..."

I will let you in on my process:

                    1. If I have to maintain an amiable relationship with someone (Say coworker or supervisor) and I know them to be Anti2A. I just let them yap on about it, or politely change the subject. You have to pick your battles.

                    2. If someone is verbally attacking you for the choice of guns your own or for the very fact you own guns, there probably isn't anyting you are going to say that is going to change their minds. Remember, the majority of the Anti-gun argumentation strategy is based in appeals to emotions and opinions. It's extremely difficult, if not impossible, to change how someone else *feels* about something. If you get into a debate with someone like this, they aren't going to change their mind, they are just going to argue until one of you gives up. A lot of people aren't great with confrontation so I understand that for many people the best course might be to do the same as No. 1. Unless.....

                    3. If you're sick bastard like me and you enjoy the confrontation and the ultimate mental and emotional crippling of your opponent, argue away....But be smart about it: be informed of the actual stats of gun violence and how the gun industry and laws actually operate operate. Antis are generally "Sound bite" people, meaning they can regurgitate a Brady Campaign slogon or stat they heard one time, but beyond that, it's pretty much a void of emotive rhetoric and insecurity. At the very least you will walk away the victor by the virture of being the obvious knowledgable party. I maintain you will still not change the mind of the person you debate with, but someone listening who is on the fence might take notice.

You'd be surprised how quickly someone will turn once you get them to the range. Wipe out all the ignorance with real life experience - it usually works.

I'd calmly ask him "Ok, if intruders break into your house and you fear for the life of your wife and children, how and what are you gonna use to protect them?" Either wait for an answer or just walk away.
If he wants to engage you to a stupid debate, just stick to that question and you might wanna say something like "I will not allow intruders to harm my family without a gun to protect them and myself. You do whatever you want and you can trash all gun owners but when an incident like that happens, my family and I will come out alive and you'll be dead!."

These folks target owners because they think owners are the last obstacle to gunfree society. I usually tell them if they think there is going to be some kind of gunless utopia they're fooling themselves. We live next to the cartel epicenter of the world just south of our borders. We cant stop the smuggling of food, drugs, material objects, and even people, what makes you think we can prevent firearms that can be broken into little parts?

Sometimes I think that one of the things that scares people about guns is the serious responsibility that comes with owning a gun.

Excuse me....but how on earth can anyone "shame" someone else in the first place regarding their gun ownership? Operative words.....How and Can.
