    Home Invasion.....

I see a ton of threads talking about which gun to use in case of a home invasion, but I would like to know if this is even a major concern. Of course it's nice and all to have the peace of mind, but what are the chances? I mean how many of us here have had to USE a gun on somebody who broke into their house? Or better yet, will you be able to shoot and kill someone who happens to come inside or will you point the gun at them and tell them to get on the ground until the police arrive? Do you have the "killer instinct"...do you really?? Are you ready to deal with taking someones life if they were just a kid screwing around for fun?

I'm really wondering what the frequency of this situation is. I highly doubt many of us here have or ever will face this situation.

I'd love to hear from people who have faced this situation....anybody??

You have two group of people. The first group of people are the ones who actually experienced break-ins. You just don't think it can happen to you until it happens. The second group of people have a fantasy in their head where they get to justify shooting someone with their gun (s).

I live in the safest city in America but maybe about a year ago at 11:30 at night someone was just banging on the door. I had no idea who it was, I was certainly not expecting any guest, but I was glad that I had a loaded firearm ready to go just in case it was some crazy person.

Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Remember, when seconds count, the police are tens of minutes away.

        FBI 2012 Stats
"*Total number of robberies that took place WITHIN the home was 59,889
*That works out to be almost 7 home invasions every hour. That’s one home invasion every 9 minutes! Every 9 minutes, a criminal broke into a home WHEN SOMEONE WAS THERE (your whole family, your teenager home alone, your elderly parent.)"

Do you like those chances? I don't.

"Kids" breaking into someone's house to steal their belongings is screwing around or fun? That "fun" sounds like crime to me. Criminals get dealt with. Break into my house while I'm at home and you're a threat to my life and the safety of my family. You'll be dealt with accordingly, prank or not.

This must be a troll thread right? Are you serious?? "Killer instinct" does not mean what you think it means. When does "Kid screwing around for fun" = home invasion? Do you support armed robbery? It's just a kid trying to make some money.. Knockout game? It's just a kid trying to fit in with their thug friends... How absurd and ridiculous can you be...

You identified two groups of people, 1. Victims who learned that "Wow it can happen, and I don't want to be at someone's mercy", and 2. Sociopaths.

Looks like the two extremes are covered.. How about 3. People who don't want to BE a victim?

I have personally known people who have suffered home invasions. None were kids pranking, but identifiable gang members.

The tone of your question and recent join date are frankly a little suspect. That said, I'll bite.

Do I worry about a home invasion? No, not at all. It is a rare enough occurrence in terms of total households in the US that I don't lose any sleep over it. Ever.

Do I keep a loaded firearm in my home JUST IN CASE? Yes, why not? It sits there loaded, not hurting anyone, not ABLE to hurt anyone. Chances are I'll live my entire life without ever firing it outside of a shooting range. Chances are also good my home will never burn down......but I still pay for that fire insurance every year.

Do I have a 'killer instinct?' I'm not sure what that is, so I am going to say no. Do I WANT to kill someone? God no. Do I want to shoot someone? God no. Do I want to even point my gun at anyone? God no.

BUT.......if someone burst through my door (probably never happen) with intentions on hurting my wife or myself, I'm fairly confident I could muster what it takes to shoot them if pointing a gun and yelling commands were not sufficient. I'm also confident I could and would provide at least some degree of first aid to the person until help could arrive.

This is the answer I was looking for. I feel the same way. I highly doubt this would ever happen but IF it ever did I'd like to think id be ready for it. Thabks for the level headed response.

I wasn't intending to make it look like I was trolling. Just wondering if anyone here has had to use their gun on anyone who broke into their home. So far nobody....exactly what I expected.

No, I sure hope I don't have to deal with that. and shooting someone will not be my first option.

But God forbid, I will be ready for it if the situation dictates. I will die first - fighting until my last breath - before anyone can touch my kids and my wife. I won't go down easy.

You are fairly new here so I will explain a little something to you. 99% of the folks on Calguns who have had to use a firearm for defense are not going to talk to you about it. Even if you are 100% correct in using your firearm and saved lives, it is still an extremely painful experience ( emotionally, morally, and/or legally). The tone of your post sounds like you are trolling for war stories.
