    WTS but no shipping?

I have been looking for two hand guns for some time and have seen examples listed here on the handguns for sale list but 99% of the time they say no shipping. Well I have bought many arms through my FFL that were shipped from inside California and out side the state. Some of these WTS posts list several items and will only transfer from their local FFL. I know they have the option it's their hand gun or rifle. But why limit your self to such a small market? What is the perceived problem? I have never had a problem ever with shipping directly to and FFL or receiving through my FFL. I just see lazy written all over this or some form of personnel FUD/incompetence. One more possibility is they don't really want to sell and are not motivated. It just seems short sighted but it is still their personnel property but if I had felt that way over the last five years I would still be sitting on my C&R Finns, Mausers,Enfields,Garands and many others I don't need as I change my focus to newer types .

Thanks for the soapbox to vent on.

    Fee's..
Unless your willing to pickup the fee's from both sides of the transaction.
Some dealers charge to ship and enter it into the bound books..
A person is selling off their gun wants to be able to get the maximum amount..but that dwindles as the fees are tacked on..

      There are many reasons.

If a gun is not on the roster, shipping doesn't increase the potential buyers by much as you could only send it to an exempt person or an FFL that does SSE on that gun.

Many buyers think added cost of shipping should result in a lowered price. Since most sales lose money anyway, why would a person want to lose more money on the deal?

Deals that involve shipping involve either additional costs (setting up an escrow account, for example) or additional risks (person claims package was not delivered/damaged, chargeback, bad check that appears to clear but then doesn't after the shipment has been sent, etc...). Most of these can be avoided, but take money (or time, but time is money), which ups the price and makes it harder to move the item (or you lose even more money on the deal).

Just because a person doesn't want to take extra time to convenience you doesn't make them lazy. Maybe they don't have the time. Maybe they don't think it worth the time.

Many times its becuase its not a pistol on the roster so a not in person transfer would not count for the exemption. But that does not seem to be the case with the pistols you are looking at.

Other reasons are, time, hassle, and fear that the deal is not legit.

There are random threads here about money being received and no product sent and product sent and payment didn't clear.

Can't blame people for wanting to get cash in hand and turning over the item at the same time, especially for high $$ items.

I've only sold a couple of things and sold them locally, only, for that exact reason.

At least many of them put their location and "no ship" in the title so you can easily ignore it.

I've never sold a firearm (yet) that needed listed anywhere. Personally, I doubt I'd ship a gun, just not worth it to me. It's not about being "lazy" or "incompetent" as OP stated. I simply don't want to put a gun in the mail. I'm 49 have owned & shot since I was a little kid & have only recently bought my first gun online. Good purchase (Cabelas) but online guns normally aren't my thing, buying or selling.

Because I only deal in cash, and I don't expect someone to mail me a stack of bills without seeing the item for sale, and I won't ship without cash in hand, been burned before on selling stuff(not here) and not getting the money up front.

For the Lazy/incompetent remark, think what you like

For the not wanting to sell, well it has never taken me longer than 10 days to sell a gun once I listed it.

Trust, or lack thereof, is one factor.

Also the time and hassle it takes to ship. Not everyone has the same amount of spare time.

And also the cost. Will the seller realistically pick up all the fees involved with the transaction?

The roster also comes into play.

No fee gong out private party can ship to FFL and they have the money and the FFLs paperwork before shipping. Bought a C&R handgun last month seller sent direct to my FFL and buyer pays all cost anyway. Just ranting.

shipping isn't the problem I have. it's more about how I'm going to be paid. not many people willing to send cash and I will not deal with PayPal.

Yes. I'm lazy. I'll need to find a box or container for the gun or rifle. Then find or buy a cardboard box for the gun container. Then, now I have to label and tape up said cardboard box. Now I have to go to my FFL and get charged for shipping the gun or rifle. I think meeting up face to face at an FFL is much easier and I can go ahead and purchase something that very same day... On top of everything I get to meet and shake hands with a calgunner...

I can't tell you how many deals with shipping I have seen go south. FFL screws something up, firearm is lost or mis-directed during shipping, buyer tries to rip off seller, seller tries to rip off buyer, the list goes on an on. That said, I live in Ventura County. If I am selling a gun, I am willing to drive 50 or 60 miles to the SFV or LA to do a PPT if the buyer isn't willing to drive up here. I also have driven all over SoCal to buy C&Rs, I never have a problem even driving 100 miles if it is a gun that I really want.

Sure, shipping gives you a much larger potential customer base but when I sold my CZ75 SP01, a very desirable gun during the panic, I had three buyers in a row flake on me. One even flaked as I was on my way to the FFL01 to do the PPT. People, in general, are flakes. Not everyone, but a surprising amount of buyers will say, "I'll take it", then they don't show up, call at the last minute, change their mind. Why would I want to put up with that in a shipping situation, it's bad enough in a face to face. I like doing business with people I have bought from or sold to before, I have bought many guns from Calgunners who were upstanding guys, fair and reliable, I don't have time to deal with flakes.
