No for now, last year I certainly thought I would be forced to learn how though.

I'm fairly certain that with a basic calculator, a lot of time, and accurate weather data, I could lob a 50bmg over a small mountain and hit a target 2.5 miles away on the other side.

Hitting the 600 yard steel target was easy with all four 300 Blackout loads by using the 600 yard BDC in the reticle of Hi-Lux Leatherwood CMR-AK762. The 800 yard steel target took a bit more work to hit as the bullet was more effected by the crosswind. 800 yards seemed to be the performance drop off distance for the flat-base short projectiles used in the Hornady, Barnes and Blackhills loads.

Does this somehow negate the fact that many people shoot this round at distance unsupressed?

Many is not most, just like most people wouldn't shoot 50BMG like an artillery piece, both being an extreme. But I really don't care either way.

Someone asked about 300AAC, and I provided the requested opinion. Your personal results may very.

I have one. I like it. No I am not all badass with a 2 inch barrel suppressed SBR, but it's a fun rifle nonetheless. I reload so its also fun just learning a new cartridge. I have a 16" carbine and plan to build a 10.5" pistol.

I just finished building a 300 upper, just waiting on the flash hider to arrive, then I will be off to the range
I've also invested in the components and dies to reload, just gotta find some powder....

Not a hater just wondering, why 300AAC?

I understand if you are using a suppressor but why else?
Hunting? Long Distance? Cheaper ammo?

I almost started a 300 build a month back but talked myself out of it, want something for big game, maybe 6.5 or 6.8.

It's cheaper than .308 (less than $.30 reloaded), can be easily used on a current AR that's set up to shoot 5.56/223, has more energy and is good for target and hunting applications. Plus, it's fun for me to convert the brass and make it into a completely different type of round. But that's just me

Do you have a 5.56/223 AR upper now? Do you reload?

I never would have bothered with this round if I didn't reload. Factory ammo in my neck of the woods is running about $1.50 per round. F that!

However I got into reloading a couple of months ago. Have a boatload of .223 brass, already have .308 bullets, had a couple of 80%s laying around. Hmmm...

I built myself a 10.5" pistol. It's been a pretty fun toy. Using the X-Treme 150gr Flat Point bullets my cost per round is 20 cents each.

Once I get the right loads worked out, I think this is gonna be my new go to/truck gun.

Yea, I have a 5.56/.223 upper and Yes I reload. But so far only pistol ammo, I have a ton of .223 brass sitting around for when I do start reloading rifle calibers. Also have a complete lower I have been sitting on.

Only the barrel would need to be switched out right?

Yes...the barrel and a new flash hider for the .308 round. I almost built an upper only but decided I wanted a complete rifle instead of having to switch between lowers. Get a set of Lee .300 dies for around $36 and you'll be read to go once you figure out how you want to cut your brass. I think that little harbor freight cutoff is the quickest and cleanest solution I've seen so far. I've tried a bandsaw but the cut off will be cleaner I think.

I've loaded about 400 rounds and only crunched one case mouth so far, so I'll say the flat base has not been an issue.

Was averaging maybe a 2" group at 50 yards (out of a 10.5" barrel) but I wasn't exactly shooting for accuracy, was monitoring the chronograph and making sure the rounds were feeding and ejecting OK at different COLs. Was averaging about 1300FPS with 12.6gr of W296.

Good to know. I'm going to try some out. Any idea of the velocity you're getting with them?
