OP these are the prices we pay for admission to the greatest show on earth. You and your Family are OK you have food and shelter. Start with being grateful about that. I have had friends who had their own son or daughter rip them off so judging people is tough.

Decisions based on the heat of the moment, often are the wrong choices. As others have stated, wait a bit first before you sell off everything.

Agree. Welcome to California; blame the victim when the intent of a criminal knows no boundaries given the opportunity.

Yes, everyone should have a safe; great. Well known. But nobody should be burglarized in the first place, which is becoming much more frequent if you haven't noticed. Whether that is a sign of the economy or losers bolstered by lax laws and a deterioration of the 2nd Amendment, not sure.

And in a state where the Governor is letting thousands out of prison, a government at all levels in CA that encourages not checking the background on illegal aliens when busted for several level infractions or misdemeanors, and giving criminals the upper hand by promoting limitation of guns to law-abiding citizens - it's bound to happen.

Yet, if he had a safe, some dbag would have said - "Well it wasn't brand X".

And if it was Brand X, some dbag would have said - "Well, you should have had a central alarm."

And if he had a central alarm, some dbag would have said - "Well, you should have had a German Shepard."

And if he had a German Shepard, some dbag would have said "Well, you should have had a Pit Bull."

Bummer about all of this, it's lousy.

Now for my question; if they know who did it, if they recovered one, has he come clean on what he did with the others? Sure, some public defender is probably telling him to keep his mouth shut - but if you knew him for 12 years, you would think that whatever decency he might have that remains in his empty husk of a cranium or sour's ear of a heart, that in the least, he would reveal to you on a personal level as to what/where your guns may be.

OP, sorry to hear about the hassle, take it as a lesson learned. Lock everything up in the safe, that's what it's there for. I used to trust friends until a similar situation happened, but was not gun related. I trust only two people with the combo to my safe, they are my wife and my best friend. He and I exchanged combos in case something happened to either of us. He also has more to loose in the safe =D.

• cool off
• buy a bigger / better safe
• lock everything up and forget about it for a while
• re-evalute your thoughts on selling everything
• re-evaluate the people you trust in your home with access to your belongings
