The Big 5 in Fremont seems to have different manager every month. Even with that, they are not that bad to deal with. Ammo is a little pricy, but when they have it they have a decent selection.
I've bought many knives from them. Excellent price when they are on sale.
I like going to B5, at least the one in Fremont.

I was browsing at a local B5 a few months back, and I overheard the clerk tellin the lady who wanted to buy a rifle that an AR was too much gun for her her and she should buy a .308.

I was when I heard that.
      Sorry, not sorry.

Also their black Friday sales always have some REALLY good prices on a handful of guns. Normally their prices are terrible and can be beat almost anywhere, but their sales can be really good.

I like to come in and put hands on a gun I want to buy online, so I can get a feel for what I like. They know by now that I'm not buying it from them, but they don't mind and just like to talk about guns. Several times they've told me that a gun I was looking at will be going on sale and to hold off on buying it.

Nothing but positive experiences for me at Big 5. Unlike Dick's where a bunch of untrained sales-sharks try to rip you off and upsell you on more expensive guns, that don't even meet your needs. I absolutely HATE looking at guns at the Dick's here in Bako.
Seconded. I've had the same experience at both East Hills Big 5 and similarly at Dicks. I've bought Mosins from Big 5 in Ventura (coincidentally on the day of the Newtown shooting) and a 10/22 at the Ming Ave location. Both experiences were Ok. Their salespeople are usually cynical and snarky, which is the typical attitude I get at any LGS.

Back before ammo prices went thru the roof, Big 5 had CCI/Blazer brass 9mm on sale for $6.99 a box---my local store only had about thirty boxes---which I bought---store manager called other stores for me and had them hold more ammo for me---nice guy---bought a bunch---still have some…
          Nice guy and very helpful!

The Big 5's in San Leandro and Alameda have treated me well, too. The girl in San Leandro found a .357 Mag Marlin 1894 with her computer terminal, and offered to get it from the Alameda store. Instead, I just went to Alameda to get it there. The folks in Alameda had forgotten that there was one in the back room, and sold it to me for the previous week's sale price. No problems at all.

I miss the days of getting the weekly advertising flyer and stocking up with whatever ammo was on sale.

              Now that's funny right there.

My local b5 has always treated me pretty good. There's a couple managers that will look IP any item you're interested in and give you the sale price if its been on sale in the last month or so. I have no complaints.

My wife's experience with Big 5 - worked out in the end, mostly. We really only needed 2 rifles, so better that they didn't get us 4 as we'd originally planned.
