Right, the shotguns & .22's in say 1973 mean I don't know squat about shooting, good one. Thanks for the ab workout, I needed a really good laugh! Thank you!
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

Last time I checked, tap-rack-bang was 1) smack the bottom of the magazine, 2) work the action to dump the possibly bad round, and 3) pull the trigger

This is the first quote that popped into my head after reading the stupidity of your post. I am wondering how you have survived this long.

Please refrain from tossing rounds down range.

Well, apparently he was never told, and now he knows. Can't fault the guy for his ignorance if no one ever taught him this stuff. However continuing to try and justify the ignorant behavior after being made aware of the problems with it... that's inexcusable.

It is, alright already everybody !!!

I was aware of that, and I miswrote and was trying to go over good diagnostics for a failure to feed and stretched the strict definition (which so many above felt the need to jump all over. - thanks, y'all are a bunch of freakin' geniuses. don't knock yourselves over patting yourselves on the back already ...)
Kind of mixed tap rack bang with the often used practice of tapping the back of the magazine to seat the rounds so they don't hang on the feed lips thus causing misfeeding and failure to feed/fire.

                Carry on.

Now, what if this happens when firing a revolver? I had one that struck, but didn't go off

A guy at our indoor range last week had a hangfire, and racked the slide. While the ejected cartridge was in mid-air it exploded. Agreed that the bullet isn't likely going to get enough velocity to be real trouble but the shattered brass casing carved a trough in his cheek from the cheekbone to just in front of his ear. Don't know how many sutures it took to close, but it was bloody as all hell.

So, you can be flippant about them, but you ARE taking a risk when dismissing the risk of a hangfire.

And don't throw your trash down the range.

You stop shooting and keep it pointed down range. A revolver isn't any different than a semi auto in this regard. Don't rotate the cylinder until you've given plenty of time for a hangfire to go off.

If you hear the primer pop it's a really good idea to check and make sure the bullet hasn't left the case and lodged in the barrel. Had that very thing happen to me when I was shooting my SIG P220.

I had a .22 hang fire bad. It went click, waited 30 seconds and a bit after 30 seconds I was getting ready to clear the round when bam it shot off. I just was like damn, did that just happen? Be safe if you have one. I suspect it was a really slow primer burn, when it shot off it felt and sounded like a regular round.
