operator= began as generic term for non military employees of CIA, SOG etc in Vietnam as distinct from LRRPS Special Forces etc...CIA and SOG would recruit from military personel such as Green Beret, Rangers, etc and put them to work in the field, often alone, deep in enemy territory for assassination or surveillance.

now also includes SEALS, Special Forces, and other like military personnel, mostly as an honorific , denotes high level of skill with firearms, killing, infiltration, intelligence etc....indicates ability to "operate" solo in hostile environments, high adaptability to tactics and mission requirements, comprehensive skill-set

    "operator", a compliment

"operator" a name on a gun you can buy to pretend you are special

the term is usually designated for SOF personnel and private contractors. since a lot of guys that were SOF at one time are now contractors they have since rolled over the nomenclature.

              For laughs:

In seriousness, yes the term "operator" has recently become synonymous with know-it-alls, tacticoolness and overall douche-baggery. There are plenty of people who served with distinction and deserve a title of respect, but they get that from being able to call themselves a Soldier or a Sailor or a Marine. Operator doesn't really do justice to what those words mean, IMHO.

I've been an operator for almost 20 years..... Not in the military sense, but that is what my job title is in the electronics industry... its a fancy name for a button pusher...

'Operator' is just code for douche bag or mall ninja.

As soon as I see that word anywhere in a review I immediately lose interest. Its quite possible that the item being reviewed is good stuff too. Oh well lol

It needs to be displayed this way; Operator. Then you know it's either somebody special or a wanna-be...
