Private property shooting with difficult neighbors

Recently I bought a small ranch (22 acres) in a very rural area where most other residents shoot daily; except one who happens to be my neighbor. Shortly after buying the property I talked with the neighbors and let them know that I too would be shooting on my property but I would respect their property and obviously do it in a safe manner. A few months after later one neighbor started to comment on the noise and asked if I could shoot farther back on the property. I politely obliged his request even though I was outside of the 150 yard rule. A few weeks later my wife and I were shooting .22's in a dry pond basin and the neighbor came over claiming that bullets were flying over his head. I pointed out that we were shooting into a bank that was 20 feet tall 90 degrees from his property so it was very unlikely bullets were flying over his head. He asked that I shoot farther back on the property again and set up some type of bullet stop. I said sure and rented a tractor to make dirt piles back on the property where he seemed to be okay with me shooting. After testing out a new rifle on the dirt piles I ran into the neighbor the next day. Once again he started complaining.

He said his dogs were scared and my shooting was causing them to bark. I asked if anyone elses shooting bothered his dogs and he said that it did. At that point I ended the conversation by saying that I did everything he asked even though I didn't have to. He said ya but it is still irritating. Conveniently he had to leave so we couldn't finish the discussion. I want to get some of your opinions about the situation and see if there is anything else you think a reasonable neighbor would do before I tell him to deal with it.

At this point I'd be friendly and ignore the neighbor. You have done everything in your power to mitigate his concerns to no avail.
Next time remind him he is trespassing on your property and you are doing nothing illegal or unlawful.

Tough one, only you can decide how much you want to try and get along with the neighbor.
That said, there are some people who will never be happy with your shooting no matter how much you try.

To me it seems like there is no pleasing this guy. He ran through various reasons why the shooting was bothersome to him and you addressed everything you could. You can't help it if his dogs get spooked by the shots. If you are in compliance with the law, I don't tink he has a leg to stand on.

Even if you could do something about the noise of your weapons, the other property owners in the area are still going to bug his dogs.

I would just be polite when you have to interact but otherwise ignore the guy.

At this point, you've bent over backwards for every request your neighbor has given, let alone there are other neighbors in the area that shoot, I would just leave it at that and tell him to screw off.

If i were you, i would try to find a compromise.

I had this one neighbor that kept reporting everyone in the neighborhood about everything. Grass too long, she complained...dogs barking, complained...construction, complained..

Even though your shooting is legal, sounds like this one guy will try to find something else to report you on. Some people have too much time on their hands.

Ignore your neighbor, you did everything you can to accommodate, you did not break the law. You're neighbor could be one of those anti, hippies type

I would begin shooting the loudest firearm I have for a week or so straight. then go back to my .22s. that should make him happy...

Go one with your life. You tried to accommodate him. Buy he's just out for it because it's not his cup of tea and he don't like the noise.

I would just signore him now. I got plenty of neighbors that I ignore. I could careless. Do what you want to do legally on your property.

As long as you have a good backstop, and are within the law, you have done everything to accommodate this guy. He needs to move into a condo!

Yea - I agree with previous post; you've went out of your way.

I will add one thing though, (and this is totally up to you) you might want to give the guys some advance notice that you are going to shoot. Other than that you're went above and beyond the normal.
