    Moving to Tennessee!!!

Well... I thought I was going to be stuck in the PRK forever, but it's surprising how life can throw you a curve once in a while... but this time I'm knocking that curve ball right out of the State!!! (and 2/3s the way across the Country)

First thing I'm doing when I get there is get my CCW. Then a silencer and a nice little machine-gun (probably a .22 so I can actually afford to shoot it!!)

I'm also looking forward to de-neutering half my rifles and picking up a few handguns that for some dumb***** reason aren't 'safe' in the PRK.

As plans get more solidified I am sure there will be a lot of stuff I'll be putting up for sale. Stuff like BBs, 10 round mags and possibly a few rifles that it would be easier to buy again once in TN then to try and fix the modifications done to them to make them legal here.

Of course I'm trading earthquakes for tornados... but everything is a trade off.

I wasn't going to say anything until I was closer to moving, but after cleaning guns tonight and realizing all the crap I wouldn't have to deal with any more I just had to tell someone. I hate the fact that the removal of a single screw can turn a perfectly legal firearm in to a FELONY in this State.

Along the lines of moving... one thing that I have been meaning to research, that I thought I would go ahead and ask here is.... any opinions on whether or not it would be cheaper for me to sell my gun safe here and buy a new one there, OR, just ship that 1300lb beast to TN??? If shipping it is the best option, any suggestions for safe moving companies?? I guess I could attempt it myself, but I like my toes right where they are.

The other reason I'm looking forward to moving is that for less than $200K I can by a nice house, one several acres! Also the fact that there are more people (10 million vs 6 million) living in LA County then in the entire State of TN.

My family lives in TN and I lived there a long while myself. Really nice place. Congrats you'll love it. The more east you go the prettier the state gets. The smokey mountains are a great place to get away for a week.... Have fun.

Still looking at houses, but it will be around Nashville. The move is due to an unexpected change in jobs and the fact that my son is now off at college so there really isn't a reason for me to stay here any more.

I had several options of locations, but Nashville won out because I've never really heard anyone say anything bad about it, and mostly because a good friend of mine is moving there in the next few weeks. A bonus is that their relatives that live there have several hundred acres that they said we can have access too any time we'd like!!

Personally I'm a little torn as I look at places. If I stay closer to Nashville and where my friends have found a place, I end up in more of a track house setting.... done enough of that here even though there the houses and lots are much nicer and bigger (I hate HOAs).

The farther I get from Nashville, the more things open up and I can actually afford to get a little land myself and a bigger house... of course I am then farther away from work and friends, but I'm in the country and have some space to breath.

It would be nice to be able to see the stars again!!! (was born in Idaho but have lived in PRK since I was 7)

One thing to remember, you may be further from work, but I have found the traffic is far less than many areas in California arounf the big cities. I have a place in North Carolina between Charlotte (90 miles), and Asheville (30 miles), and I have found many times a 30 mile drive equals about 30 minutes and the 90 mile drive is close to 90 minutes. If there are freeways/Interstates to access and use. The area I have my place has seen a huge influx of people from both Charlotte and Asheville in the past few years to escape the city for more land and larger houses in the same price range. This might be something to look in to. Heck, here in the Los Angeles area, I can spend an hour on the freeways or side streets to travel 13 miles.

Go live in the country! And if you're into firearms training, check out Tactical Response. Their main training facility is in Camden ... great training!

Congrats! Life is much better outside of this hellhole of a state. Youll find almost EVERYTHING to be much nicer. Absorb your surroundings, leave California in California and youll be very, very happy.

Good for you. You will be much happier and you won't have to deal with the socialist B.S. Good luck.

I bought a safe off a guy that was moving to OK. The day I came to pick it up he also had his movers at his house to give him an estimate. Out of curiosity, he asked how much it would cost to have my safe put in the truck. The mover asked how much it weighed (1500 lbs) and told him approximately $800.00. So in his case it would have been a lot cheaper to have it shipped than buying a new one.
sigpicIf you loan someone twenty dollars and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I just got back from the Costa Mesa Gun Show (which made me all the more anxious to get my butt to TN) but I stopped by and asked what the guys selling the safes thought would be the best option, and they agreed that shipping the safe would be much cheaper than buying a new one (especially since the safe I currently have has gone up in price twice in the past couple of months!!)
