I don't know anyone personally who had done it, but remember the dude on here who shot himself in the leg and even posted pictures of him on the floor.

We have a winner /threadDoes COMPLETE STUPIDITY with an anti tank mortar round count?
When I was 17, a friend of a friend decided to show us a 37mm or 38mm anti tank shell that he had picked up (illegally) off the training range, he was in the army reserves.
He was trying to prove to us (3 of us and him) that it was a "dud" and that "it wouldn't go off" by dropping it on the ground, starting low and working his way higher and higher.
I didn't know much about guns or ammunition at the time, but I knew that it looked complete to me. The other 2 and I all told him not to mess with it. We were in a shed (his shed) that we could not easily get out of.
Sure enough, BANG!, in a big way.
All of us had shrapnel wounds from head to toe. All of the other 3 had at least one broken leg, one guy broke both and was in traction for nearly a year. One lost the use of his hand forever.
I was lucky enough to not have a broken bone but I still had some pretty major shrapnel hit and go through me. 2 weeks in hospital, a long surgery and about 60 stitches as they tried to clean out the big pieces.
I am still picking out shrapnel to this day, 25 years later.Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friendsComment

*Whistles* Holy ****ing ****. That story must be the reason I am scared of people's storage sheds in the backyard.

I remember going to Oak Tree years ago when they had tents for the pistol range. If you looked up it was like the milky way galaxy with all the holes.
Never had a ND however I've experienced 3 AD's, one when an AK-47 chambered in .50 Beowulf slam fired when chambering and twice when my pistol decided it had a .1 lbs. trigger. By following all the safety rules, the pistol was pointed at the target and I only scored a 7 both times. The AK, who knows where that round went but it was towards the target. With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

Bad day out at the farm
I guess I have a story or two.
My older brothers had somehow got a hold of a .357 mag round. Well ... we all went out behind the barn and my older brothers decided to fool with it ... So, out comes the hammer. I mean a regular claw hammer! It reminded me of a Daffy Duck / Bugs Bunny Cartoon.
So ... being the scaredy cat that I was ... I ran back into cover and peered through the woodshed. And my oldest brother grabs the hammer and just wails away at the round! I hear this BANG! and all of a sudden, my oldest brother drops the hammer and grabs his side in agony. Needless to say, his T-shirt started well up a very bright red.
Being that we lived so far out in the country, it fell on my Mom to drive him to the hospital. Fortunately for him, there was no firearm, or enclosure. It appeared that a piece of the brass came off like shrapnel and grazed his side.
A few stitches later ... and a big scolding and removal of privileges ... and my oldest brother was none worse for wear.
Then ... there is the other story of how my oldest brother was playing with a a jerry can full of gasoline amongst a big pile of tumble weeds ... but ... that is another story all together.Comment

I got one.
I was at work. Had about 20 missed calls from my Ol lady. I freaked out and called back. She's just kept telling me not to be mad at her while crying. I yelled at her to tell me what the hell is wrong.
She explained that her mom
And brother came over. My wife and brother were in my room finding something for my son. He found my HD 870. So he decides to chamber a shell. I don't know why. Then he decides to pull the trigger. It went though my bedroom Wall into the garage. Dented my garage door.
Needless to say. They aren't allowed back at my house. I never really seen eye to eye with her family and that just added to the list. He's 3 years older than my Ol lady. He Was screaming and crying like a baby. My wife had her back to him. Her ears were ringing.
I explained to my Ol lady the out come it could have had. My sons room it's right next to ours. She realized the worse case scenario. I didn't have to say it.
Then her mom has the nerve to tell me shiit about my guns in the house. All my guns are locked up except for my HD gun. I have a lot of trust in my kid. He knows what can happen and knows not to mess with a firearm if an adult is not there. I have set up things to prove this to myself. I don't sugar coat things for my kid.

I did the same thing once. Scared the **** out of me.I've dropped one of my loaded, unholstered Glocks before. Wasn't doing anything stupid with it, but sometimes you just fumble something out of your hand.
At any rate, you never know what you'll actually do until it happens and I have to say, thank god my instinctual reaction was/is to let the gun just hit the ground without trying to grab for it.
It was a 40 cal. Glock too, and I happened to be the only one in the room that was qualified enough to handle it, so you know it could have been bad.
