I just saw that idiot rapper with the nine shoot his shower stall and it was major stupid all around.

That got me thinking: what is the most stupid ND you have ever witnessed or heard of?

I'll start. I did business with a guy in Portland Oregon who had a son that one day was practicing quick draws - with a loaded and primed Walker Colt! Something went wrong, the gun went off, and a ball coursed down his leg, shattering his knee and splitting his calf open.

well i shot my grandpa in the foot when i was 6 with a .22 revolver lol. my first time ever shooting any kind of pistol and it was a cheapo .22 revolver with a very worn trigger probably a .2 lb trigger pull no joke.

he did lol. but he got a good story out of it. he told all his prison buddies (corrections officer at folsom for 35 years) that it was a good shot and he was 25 yards away and running when i got him

A classmate was told that a rival gang was looking to shoot him. He started packing heat - then got word that whatever caused the conflict was resolved. He took the mag out of the pistol but forgot about the one in the chamber. It went right through his foot when he was fingering the pistol in his pocket.

Had a buddy showing me and another friend his xd45 and how easy it is to break it down and put it back together. I guess it needs the mag in to drop the slide to lock it all back together. He did that and pulled the trigger. Ears rang for a bit after that one, he had powder burns on his hand and a nice cut on his hand where the end of the barrel pinched it. He got lucky it didn't go through his hand and he was pointing it in a safe direction. Happened so quick I was in disbelief.

An old friend of mine shot through his hand with a .38 snubnose. He had hollow points in it but it went though and stuck into the drywall. Not 30 minutes earlier I was telling him he needs to clean the gun, because it was all greasy for some reason. He didnt listen, it slipped and he caught the trigger. He called me from the hospital to say I was right lol

Yeah, I'll admit my one and only ND...and it was beyond stupid on my part.

Had an old German made Rohm single action .22LR revolver with no transfer bar mechanism so it was always kept with an empty chamber under the hammer. One time after shooting outdoors I carefully put it on half-cock, loaded the chambers, and then forgot which direction the cylinder turned. As I pulled the hammer back and eased it down the hammer ended up resting on a loaded chamber. Sure enough, I dropped the gun and it hit hammer first, sending a round at a 45 degree angle through the open passenger window and then through the vinyl roof of my father-in-law's '77 Mercury coupe.

Not my best day.

I've dropped one of my loaded, unholstered Glocks before. Wasn't doing anything stupid with it, but sometimes you just fumble something out of your hand.

At any rate, you never know what you'll actually do until it happens and I have to say, thank god my instinctual reaction was/is to let the gun just hit the ground without trying to grab for it.

It was a 40 cal. Glock too, and I happened to be the only one in the room that was qualified enough to handle it, so you know it could have been bad.

once saw a safety instructed while talking about gun safety with a shotgun have an nd in the class room and blow a hole in the tile. Otherwise I saw one where it was a glock with a retention holster and had a nd. in both cases no one was hurt.

A friend of a relative went camping with us, we all went out shooting and she was a noob. Every time she held a firearm she would always put her finger on the trigger, and I would always yell at her to knock it off (politely at first, then started getting impolite after about the 7th time in a row). I have no idea how when you're told every single time to not do something you do it again every single time

Well when she went to shoot a friend's handgun instead of mine, I wasn't watching her. I should have been even though it wasn't mine, but I was helping another noob out at the time.... sure enough she "accidentally" fires a .40s&w off straight up into the air a foot away from me. She was banned from shooting for the rest of the trip, and banned from shooting with me forever since she can't follow even the simplest instructions.

I've got a new rule now when shooting with me. If I have to correct you repeatedly for the same safety violation, you're done. Not going to keep repeating myself and take a risk when you're obviously not taking this seriously enough to pay attention to what you're doing. I also now watch and correct all noobs regardless of if they are handling my firearm or not.

When I was about 16 years old I was out at an unsupervised range up in Angeles NF with my dad and my brother. Just finished shooting for the day, I'm headed downrange to pick up targets, my brother is putting the guns away. He notices that the Colt Mustang is sitting there with the hammer cocked and the chamber closed. He assumes that it is unloaded, points it casually downrange and pulls the trigger. <BANG> I heard the bullet whiz by me. Boy, did my dad lay into him. After about five minutes of it, I was actually starting to feel sorry for him.

Not an ND, just stupid gun handling: About ten years later, took my girlfriend out to the range. She had a habit of forgetting to put her hearing protection on, and I was getting tired of reminding her. So she squares up to shoot without putting her hearing protection on (coincidentally with the exact same Colt Mustang), and I decide to just let her figure it out for herself. She's all set to shoot, when she remembers her hearing protection. So, without putting the gun down, or putting the safety on, or even taking her finger out of the trigger guard, she reaches down to the shooting table, picks her ear muffs up, and puts them on her head. If you go through the motions yourself, you will see that at one point she had the gun pointed directly at her head, with the safety off and her finger in the trigger guard. When I pointed this out to her, she thought it was funny. I royally chewed her out about it. Relationship didn't last long after that.
