    Pregnant Woman at range

Went to indoor range tonight and there was a pregnant woman with her significant other. The air quality is ok, not great. What is the opinion of pregnant women going shooting, especially at indoor ranges? My daughter talked to her and she is due in two months.

Unless someone's shooting lead bullets near her and there's no ventilation I would be surprised if she had exposure.

Most ranges I have been to in the past 4 years have strict policies against pregnant women being inside the range.

I think it is careless to do so. Sure, there may be very low chance of lead exposure with a good ventilation system, but it's still highly irresponsible to risk it.

I wonder if the decibel levels would have more bearing than any possible lead exposure.

I think it's a bad idea. When my wife was pregnant and breast feeding I basically stopped shooting. My choice but really think it's a bad idea.

No no bad bad, wait till the baby is born. Lead is amazingly harmful to the child's brain development. Not worth the risk.

I doubt lead is a serious concern, the decibal level is different. I would think an outdoor range would be a better option if at all.

decibel level is the concern here

I don't see what the problem is except for the overprotective nanny state conditioned individuals.

                    Lost of info available here.

Search for "Lead Exposure at a Covered Outdoor Firing Range" for how much to expect and "lead exposure during pregnancy" for why it may be bad.

Then, for noise, search "noise exposure during pregnancy".

One on-point result for both considerations: http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/wp-sol...s/2013-104.pdf and the longer version http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/hhe/reports...-0069-3140.pdf

I would advise against it. But YOU get to tell the pregnant lady with a gun not to.

Most ranges I've been to have signs posted. My wife is due next month and when she's pregnant she stops shooting with me and pretty much stays out of the garage where me loading equipment is. No reason not to be safe.

Not sure what the connection to your reference is? It's not like I am saying she should go there to drop the kid.

Pretty much only time I went to see the Doc's was if I had something major wrong. Such as the time I had a 102 degree fever (and walked there and back) or went when I broke my foot and wrist (not at same time).
