    LMT Upper lost by UPS!!!!

I did a trade with someone on the boards and the LMT Upper, pistol grip, mag, and stock were sent via UPS and it was "Physically scanned" on 8-07. He insured it for $800. Then it was misrouted at the hub then it was sent to Sacramento then it was sent to Vernon, CA then Sylmar, CA then back so Sacramento, CA. I called to ask them WTF and they said " It was physically scanned on 8-07 then the rest of the destinations that you are seeing are logical scans". I asked what a logical scan is and was told the computer matches the semi trailer number to the package number and then updates the package data everytime the truck changes destinations. I had the Sacramento UPS hub call me and tell me that they just checked the trailer and the package is NOT on there and for the shipper to file a trace, they won't let me file a trace since I am the receiver. They then said that it will take between 2-8 business days for them to investigate and they will get back to the shipper on what he has to do to file for the insurance.

    The questions I have are:

    1. Has anyone been through this before?

    2. What proof do you have to provide and how much do they pay you (the full insurance amount $800 or the used value or some other value)?

    2. Do I have to file anything with BATF/CA DOJ stating that the upper was lost?

    3. I know that if I was the shipper and I received my end of the deal I would pay the person $800 that I traded with and I would wait for re-imbursement from UPS, but what do you guys think would be the FAIR thing to do for both parties?

I forgot to add this was Adult signature only!

    Thanks to all replies!

UPS will try every way possible to blame the shipper for insufficient packaging,
or mislabeling. Then they will require original proof of the amount. Fortunately he insured it so they should re-imburse the entire amount. UPS will only refund the money to the shipper.

Truly amazes me how they can "lose" an upper. They should just come out and say.. well it went to the wrong person to god knows where or one of our employees jacked it.

UPS sucks. I've had 9 out of 14 items purchased through them get wrongly routed or lost over the last few years. I've NEVER had a Fedex problem..and I've had a few problems with USPS.

Seriously, wait it out. I've been forced to have more patience than required several times and some of the time, it magically shows up....some of the time.

NEVER send anything you value through UPS Ground. And an insured Ground shipment? You might as well write "STEAL ME" all over the box.

If you absolutely have to send it UPS, send it via air service (3 day, 2 day, overnight). Less human hands on the package means less opportunity for damage or theft.
"Are you bringing in any weapons?"
              "Of course not!"
              "You're not changing anything."

There's a reasonable chance that UPS will locate the shipment within a few days - things do get put on the wrong truck or dropped off on the wrong dock. Most people are honest and these things generally sort themselves out. If not, it will be an inconvenience but UPS will eventually pay the value of the item if the shipper can document it.

items can be stolen off a truck or left on wrong door, or even UPS drivers can steal or sell or give away or some crap..

I had some computer memory and few misc items worth about 150$ "delivered to wrong address" left on porch, I went to the address they said and there was nothing there, no one even lived there.
Had to file a claim with Newegg, they filed the claim with UPS and I got a refund and items shipped again.

This used to happen to me a lot with softball bats. I became friends with my UPS pick-up driver and he gave me a number to a claims agent at the main office. 3 months after they "lost" my last bat, i get a call saying that they have found my bat, as well as another one i lost months before that one.

It seems UPS has a huge O S & D warehouse in Utah.

Just Monday UPS delivered my upper two doors down from my house. Thankfully no one was home and it was still on the porch. I was freakin out though!

Had a friend who worked for UPS in the late 80's and let me tell you the stuff that "found" it's way into his and other employees possession.

I would guess 98% of the time you are in good hands, but something like that maybe should request a signature kinda thing..

I have had a lot of packages from UPS get delivered on time even though the tracking system did not know where they were.
