why is .380 hated so much?

I constantly hearon this forum how .380 is a piece of sheit. And how its for hookers and pansies.
Will .380 not kill a badguy?
Will it just bounce off skin?
Ive shot this caliber and i wouldnt want to b on the business end of it. So why all the negative opinions?

Alot of .380 guns are blowback operated they have a more "snappy" recoil when compared 9mm non blowblack operated handguns of a similar size. A sig p230sl was the first firearm I ever shot and while I do not like shooting it is my moms hd gun. It is also more expensive than 9mm which is a much better round imo.

I'd say it's my minimum for self defense and I wouldn't rely on it. But, it matches nicely with small famed autos and has enough to do the job for self defense. As a marginal caliber you have to be careful about what ammo you decide on.

Amateur ballistics on youtube all seems to show a significant lack of penetration compared to 9/40/45/10.

Personally I don't 'feel' much difference shooting 9mm & 380.

Size 'was' the only benefit but that benefit has been wiped out with the newer 9mm pocket guns. The only remaining difference is the disadvantage of unsatisfactory penetration.

Back in the day, a 380 semi-auto was a common BUG (back up gun), but as 9mm gained popularity and smaller versions of 9 mils were made, they replaced the 380.

.380 isn't a piece of junk, it's just not as good as pretty much everything else in that class of cartridges.

Because its brass is so easy to mix up with 9mm when scrounging at the range.
