    How many rounds for HD?

Just curious how many rounds you guys keep on hand for your HD firearms.

I'm thinking for a 12 GA, probably one of those 80 round fiocchi cans would be adequate.
For .223, probably like 100 rounds?

and for handgun, 9mm I'm thinking probably also 100 rounds.

I'm just talking about the smallest amount of ammo to keep on hand for emergencies, not an ammo stockpile for the range or the end of the world or anything like that

How many rounds/loaded mags do you guys keep?

At bedside or carry on property I keep my pistol loaded, holstered mag in, decocker off, not chambered, and 1-2 mags in a small mag holster. In various safes are Shotguns and long guns at the ready with loaded mags/ammo at their side.

Each place is different, but it would hurt little to have extra mags loaded. It is a lonely time if you run out of ammo.

6+1 in the shotgun + 6 on a side saddle

1911 is close enough with 8rds

In a HD situation you will not have enough time to put on a holster etc. My PJs don't have pockets either.

For me, 6 rounds of 12G 00 buck shot, 20 rounds 45ACP remington golden saber. If I ever need more than that, I'll be in deep s&$@ trouble

          I keep 2 mags loaded.

          Same reasoning as teg33.

'Keep on hand' and 'keep at the ready' are very different.

2 mags for an HD handgun and 8 in my shotgun are sufficient for HD.

I try to stock up on 500 rnds of HD ammo because I believe you should be shooting a mag or 2 of your HD/SD ammo periodically, just to make sure it's always going to run smoothly.

Mag in the bedside gun, plus a spare mag.

6+1 in the 12G in the (unlocked) safe in the bedroom closet.

There's more ammo/other stuff there & available, but I figure if I haven't gotten it (HD) done with that I'm probably already effed.

I have 10+1 in the gun, in my safe with an extra mag (10) right next to it.

Do you think I should have the mag in? decocker off, and don't put one in the chamber. I currently have one in the chamber, decocker/safety on.

                      What do you guys think?

In total, I have no idea, I need to go through and catalog what I have.

                        Ready to use

21 rounds of .45acp(2 magazines + 1 in the chamber)

12 rounds of .357 magnum(6 in the gun, 1 speedloader)

11 rounds of 1buck 12ga(5+1 in the gun and 5 on a side saddle)

and while I don't really consider it a HD gun(if things have gotten to this point, **** has officially hit the fan at least in my house) I have 5 or 6 full clips for my M1 garand.

i think however you train is how you should keep it, i agree with having one in the chamber, racking a round doesn't take long but it the possibility for messing up could make it long. If you shoot you pistol by taking the safety off before then i think thats fine, what model of gun is it?
Selling lots of Pistol brass, lots of 38 and 44 mag!

For emergencies one magazine is usually enough. I do keep a magazine pouch with 8 - 8 round magazines close by for my 1911 though.
