?? best Varmint scope under for $200

I've decided to buy a cheap scope. It's for a 20"wylde RRA Varmint upper. Squirrels is what we have all over. I'd like it to be small mill dots or fine lines for drop and maybe wind, being its cheap and don't want to mess turrets. Our field is 400 yds long, so I want to get the squirrels as far as possible, that is the guns 95% sole purpose. Can you people recommend something for me. I want to buy good scope mounts though. Iv'e seen one piece and 2 piece cantaliever style mounts. Whats the pros or cons on that please? I can't justify the expense of a good scope now. Please suggest a real economical buy for the money with something that I've described. I heard good things about bsa sweet, but confused on which ones have mildot or drop? I'm also thinking of going for the magnification up to 18 or 24 in that 200 dollar range.

every one is going to tell you to spend more for quality glass, but i have been using a BSA Platinum 8-32x44 on a stevens 200 .243 and it has done very well. i should have gone with a fixed 10x though. 16x is the highest you can see anything and i only shoot on 10x even when shooting long range. my scope has never lost zero once. turrets return to zero although i dont crank on them that much because i dont trust that they would return well if you move them around a bunch. i have shot targets up to 800 yds and my longest measured prarie dog kill is 400 yds. although in your position i would try and spend just a butt hair more and get a swfa super sniper fixed 10x for $300

If the type of shooting you are doing requires mil dots then you are wasting your time and money with a $200 scope. You just cannot buy quality glass in that price range.

those are very good scopes. they were military contract scopes then the swfa bought the rights

if you watch his video (tiborasarusrex) which are extremely informative he uses the swfa on his .243 in most of the videos

yea, the do sound nice. I found one for 400 but not 300 yet. I wonder why the 16 power is cheaper than the 10 power? They are both super snipers.

I use a BSA "Sweet 223" 6~18 power 40 mm. Get that from Nachez for only $54, yes, $54!

Sure, you can buy better optics, for about the cost of your entire gun. If you want to hit stuff and have fun doing it, $54 is a quick way to get there.

I have good stuff too, but these work and I don't worry about breaking anything expensive.

I have a couple of these on two AR,s. just bench shooting to 200 yards.
they work ok. I use the AR one piece mounts.

The rule of thumb for best performance is that the optics should cost about the same as the underlying rifle. With a good rifle and a $200 scope, you are wasting money on the underlying rifle. Unless you have a $200 rifle, in which case I doubt that shooting squirrels at 400 yards will be successful.

In a sensible price range (which $200 isn't), IOR Valdada scopes are a pretty good compromise. They are built in a low-wage country (Rumania), but have a long tradition of precision work, and come from the Zeiss line, through East Germany. Another option is Vortex.

For the mount on flattop ARs, I'm fond of JP Rifles.

that may be, but a lot of expensive rifles have iron sights on them. I think I could shoot more accurately with a 100 dollar scope than I could with nice iron sights at 100 yards plus. Certainly then, the expensive gun w/ iron sights isn't useless. So I think a cheap scope has its place. Besides, I'm new at this. If the cheap scope goes to heck, I will throw it in the glove box of the truck, and can use it as binoculars in the truck. I can use it to read a brand on a cow, or see if a sprinkler in the orchard is plugged up, or keep an eye on someone or something in the distance. So far I think it's between baih 777 scope suggestion and I'm also tempted to spend the extra money and go Altahicks route. Seems the super sniper is really raved about in the fixed 10 power. They make the same thing, or made to believe anyway, at same price in a fixed 12 and 16 power. I'm tempted to go to a higher power than 10 though. military uses 10, but people are a much bigger target than a squirrel. I'm confused on whether to think about getting the 12 power or the 16. I'm not sure how close up targets would be blurry w/ the 12 or 16 power. What do you guys think about the 10, 12, 16 power for what distances????
