How many loaded Mags is too many?

I like to go shooting not loading.

It depends on the range you go to. If it does not allow the transportation of loaded magazines, then leave a couple that you want to bring to the range unloaded.

Otherwise, load them all. That's what I do anyway. An unloaded magazine takes up just as much space as a loaded one, except it is less useful. So you might as well load them all.

It must suck to go to a range that is more restrictive than CA state law.

Two mags per gun, unloaded. Maybe a few extra mags here and there. When in the last 200 years has an American needed dozens of loaded mags?

I don't get the connection between extra loaded mags and a negligent discharge. Keep your booger hook off the trigger and there won't be any issues.

The only mags I keep unloaded are the .22lr mags, all my 40s mags stay loaded (for go to HD gun) and the shotgun & sks are loaded (just in case).

Edit: I forgot I have some unloaded 9mm mags in storage but I also don't own a 9mm right now

i leave two mags loaded with good HP ammo for my 1911 for HD, all my other pistol mags are in the safe loaded with fmj for the range/blm

i leave two AR mags loaded with m193 for HD and all other rifle mags empty but ammo on stripper clips

loading pistol mags sucks at the range

Every firearm in my safe is loaded, maybe not chambered, but, with full magazine...My HD firearm has 2 fully loaded magazines at the ready

I don't have 100's of magazines, but, the ones I do have I keep in a separate small locking drawer above my safe

It's like owning several gas cans but keeping all but one empty since you are only going to be pouring one at a time anyway, right?

If you have zero intention of using them, sure, but if they are intended to be used for guns already in your safe, then you either have one less thing to do when you go to the range, or one less time consuming hurdle in the way of readiness if you REALLY need them.

I see no disadvantage.

All guns in the safe have loaded mags and empty chambers.

Other mags are stored in dry boxes topped off next to the ammo cans.

This was my thinking as well. My only concern is I store full mags in the safe. I know a bit on the paranoid side, but I'm a bit fastidious in general.
Empty mags and ammo are stored in ammo cans outside the safe as not much room inside the safe.

Anyway I think I have a reasonable systems of 20 loaded (just in case) and 10 not loaded for back and forth to the ranges.

Gun magazines...I take the attitude many women have toward shoes...you can't have too many.

I have to store the ammo somewhere so why not in a magazine since my ammo will eventually have to go into them at sometime anyway. At least in a magazine ammo is ready for immediate use if the need ever occurred.

The old adage "Better safe than sorry" comes into play here.
