How many loaded Mags is too many?

Finally got some interior leds mounted in my safe last weekend. Looks awesome! I also bought several magazine holders that mount on the interior of the door. This got me thinking I should have some loaded mags in the safe just in case for emergencies and such. Then proceeded to load all my mags.

How many loaded mags is too many? I showed my son and he said "Dad it looks like you are ready for war!"

Anyway . . .it got me thinking . . . Do other keep their mags loaded or unloaded in the safe?

Loaded. Great way to store ammunition and be space efficient. Mine are typically kept in ammo cans so if I'm loading a case of ammo, I toss in a box or a cut portion of the case that shows the make, model and lot number. I don't keep all of my ammo loaded otherwise I'd bankrupt myself with magazine purchases.

As for how many is too many, I don't think you can honestly have too many magazines in general unless you're upwards of a couple hundred per gun. I'd want enough to keep the gun functional for my lifetime and future generations. I suppose it depends on your shooting schedule. I wouldn't want unloaded mags because physical space to store ammo and mags can be cut in half if you load your mags.

Two mags per gun, unloaded. Maybe a few extra mags here and there. When in the last 200 years has an American needed dozens of loaded mags?

        Loaded. They are useless unloaded.

We might as well get rid of our guns with that attitude then....

Maybe we have never needed them because we already have them...?

America is known the world over as one of the most armed if not the most.

A bit of cute "propaganda" from the 1940s alleged to have originated in the USA but attributed to the japanese:

I keep all available magazines are loaded.

If I had more money and safe space, I would have more loaded magazines But for now, my goal with money/space considerations is to have at least 10 magazines per gun.

I don't see the point of having your mags unloaded. They have to be loaded at the range so why not just load them all up before hand? All my mags are loaded at all times. Never had a spring or feed lips fail from storing them loaded.

I keep the 4 AR mags loaded that are in my Go bag. I keep a G19 with all of the mags loaded in a pistol case. My G21 stays loaded along with a spare and my 442-2 stays loaded in my pocket with spare ammo ...

So I am in the LOADED Crew... Unloaded is stupid

Well until that whole 10 round magazine thing gets taken care of... I see little use in loading anything other than my pistol magazines.

I keep three handguns mags loaded, and only a couple of AR mags loaded. My HD long arm would be my shotgun.

I have the rest unloaded because I like to know the brand, make and grain of my ammo. And if they are out of the box, and in the mags, it would be hard to keep track of. I suppose if I only bought one brand and one or two types of ammo it wouldn't matter, but I have too many types to keep track of.
