    ^^^ calgunner "bsg" nailed it.

Be less critical of yourself, we should all do that once in awhile.

try aiming or set goals to spend less on this.

my last thought, is sell one gun and see how you feel about it.(may be the one gun that you're not good with or never take shooting and has no sentimental value.)

I think you'll see that even if you're ok selling with the gun, it doesn't make you feel good.

I think your answer is here. There are ways to keep your guns out of sight out of mind without resorting to selling them off, which as many others have pointed out, you may come to regret.

I only kept a few around when our kids were little. I would sell one to buy one, to keep the number down. In hindsight, I wish I would have just bought a safe and kept them. You already have a safe so storage is not an issue, I suggest you take your time and don't be in a hurry.

If you have duplicates (ie multiple 1911s) or similar stuff (ie a glock and a springfield XD) why not sell off the duplicates?

If you have stuff you know you are just not going to shoot or already don't shoot much, why not sell them off?

There's no point in having all that stuff sitting around collecting dust.

Keep what you know you really like and will occasionally shoot.

If you're really worried about it, put all the money away that you get from your sales, in case somewhere down the line, you get an itch to get back into the hobby. Then you have a ready pile of cash for whatever catches your eye.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Why have all that money in stuff you're not really going to use?

Unless something is particularly collectible, I don't see the issue selling off stuff you don't use much.

I've done it in the past and never looked back.

I understand the need for cash, as have probably most people. As someone pointed out, if you sell most of your arms, you may never be able to replace them due to either cost or regulations.

You may want to decide to keep a smaller inventory but keep at least a couple of handguns, .22 handgun, .22 rifle, shot gun, a long range rifle like the 30-30 and a semi-auto. Remember that the .22s will be a great way to introduce the kids to the sport of shooting.

Best answer right here. I've sold a few guns off about 10 years ago when I headed off to law school and have regretted it more as the years pass. Some are now unattainable either due to price or legislation.

I don't know if anyone said this, but if you sell your rifles you'll have to register any rifles you buy in the future.

                      At least keep the AR.

Could someone PLEASE talk him off the ledge!

sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

What the hell is the big deal with registration? OP if you want to sell by all means sell, for those saying leave for the kids why? What makes you think they would want them? Besides by then the laws will be soooooo fkd up they wouldn't know up from down.

I did the opposite. I have a toddler and infant now. I went out and bought them each their own shotguns, 22 and ars. They now have pre 2014 guns. Who knows if they will be into guns or not. But they have something they can remember me for their rear of their lives. If they want to sell it in the future and cash out they can when they are adults. I know one thing... 21yrs from now these guns will be worth more than they cost now. Investment for the future
Don't you know the rule?? Never open the safe in front of the wife!!!

I too have kids, don't get to shoot nearly as much as before, but still kept most of my guns. I did by a MArlin 81 DL with my C&R for my son before the new year. Figured he'[ll want his own .22 when bigger, broken stock fixer upper for $65.

I sent you a PM OP, interested in your Savage.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

This ^^^^ is exactly what I did. There is no gun culture here in the SF Bay Area. I stowed all my firearms for over 20 years. After the children were all grown up, I took them all out of storage and much to my amazement they were all in excellent condition!

I will never put my firearms back in storage again ... nope ... never!

Now, that both of my boys are adults, we go shooting together quite often. If the case was that I was living where I grew up, (Central Valley California), I most likely would have never put my firearms away.

The culture here in the SF Bay Area is way too hostile. Also, in America, there is too much media that promotes solving your problems by knee-capping some dude or shooting them in the face ... This is just wrong.
