Very-very interesting thread... OP is very well researched and very provocative... moreover, it is EXACTLY TRUE...!
Op... it is a strange, very-very strange phenomena this LTC and a mega-load of lame excuses why these guys don't carry, and never re-new...!!! I never would'a believe it myself if I didn't hear all the excuses and see it time and time again. I tell them; you have ANY idea how fortunate you are to live in Mendocino County and have this privilege just handed to you like free candy... a surreal and very strange phenomena... to say the least...!
Very brief history;
I live in Mendocino County, CA - We are 'Shall Issue'.
I'm a LTC holder since 2003
Have seven (7) guns on my LTC
Gun is on my person; 24/7/365 - .S&W 340PD .357 mag / Ankle
When I run 5 miles a day for exercise 5 or 6 days a week... and YES, I do carry when I run / Fanny pack
When I do yard work? Yes.
Take the trash to the curb? Yes.
When I first obtained my LTC, I worked at Diamond Jim's Sporting Goods and had many-many conversation with gun owners. I have a Type 01 FFL License and I am still involved in firearm transactions.
How many times I have a conversation with people, or someone I've known for yearrrrrrrrrrs. And the subject of LTC/CCW comes up.
Have your CCW? - Ohhh naaa... used to, but I never renewed it.
Why? - Ohhhhh too much trouble, and besides... I hardly ever carried my gun anyway sooooo...
Or... this;
Have your LTC? - Ya... sure, uhhhhh but... I never carry.
Why? - Well, my wife... she doesn't like it. But you know, I carry if I need to.
Or this;
Have your CCW? - Oh ya... I have an LTC.
You carry every day? - No, sometimes I do... just depends... when will I ever need it anyway... besides, it's too big.
Now... I can go on and on and on and on... but I won't.
Gentlemen, see... here's the deal.
You have NO DOUBT heard it before... LTC is like a spare tire, or a fire extinguisher... you pray to God you never need to use either, but thank God it was RIGHT there at hand if you ever NEED IT...!
I carry - strap on my gun like I strap on my watch. I take my gun, like I take my cell phone... I grab my gun like I grab the keys to my truck. I always have my wallet on me, my comb, little pocket knife... every day, every day no matter what.
And that is how you ought to carry your gun... 24/7/365 - Day in, day out... every day... every day you carry like you wear your watch, carry your cell phone... YES I'M SERIOUS...!!!
Now... you will probably have a better chance at winning the Powerball Lottery than you will ever need to pull your gun and have to use it - deadly force to stop a threat of imminent peril.
The point is this... if you need it, you need to be able to reach for it, without thinking... and IT'S THERE...!
And please... please don't do any of that 'my wife won't let me carry when we are together' - Here is my post, in another thread, a few days ago http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...1#post13526471
