    Stupid Shooters

In general, I think most CA gun owners are pretty reasonable and safe.
But regardless of where you are, there are always going to be "stupid shooters". One might call them "range retards".

These are people who are either new to firearms safety and range etiquette, simply don't care about these things, or, they might just be, stupid shooters.

What is the weirdest or worst stupid shooter story you can think of? Whether it was a random person at the range or someone who was part of your shooting group?

For me, there are always novice shooters at the range, and none of them take the time to read or abide by the range rules, or even the four basic gun safety rules. Dumbest shooter I've ever shot with was my friends cousin, he brought a horse mask to the range and bumpfired copious amounts of MY ammo through MY AR15

So calgunners, who are the dumbest shooters you've ever had the misfortune to come into contact with?

I wasn't shooting with them, but yesterday at my private rifle club I was shooting next to a member who brought a guest. We were on the pistol range (which is open with no partitions or anything like that) and I happen to look over and the guest is trying to clear a malfunction with the pistol pointed directly at me. My heart just about dropped.

The stupid part comes into play when I walked over and mentioned that they might want to be a bit more aware of the muzzle and such, and also that I have a couple of babies at home that need their daddy. The guest laughed. I didn't .

I've been next to a new shooter who made every mistake short of shooting himself or others. He was asked to leave.

Another time a young man took his girlfriend shooting for the first time and rented a 9mm semi-auto. She was so nervous that she let go of the pistol when it went off. Immediately talked him into renting her a .22 instead.

I had a retard shoot before I was back to the firing line after checking/replacing my targets. I was a bit more than unhappy and he could not understand why!

          The Range Master's response to my comments regarding firearms handling of another shooter went something akin to;

'What, you pointed at gun at him and he didn't beat you up?'

I seen a very green newbe shooter take his 2000 dollar DD AR 15 out for the very first time. Inserted mag and pushed bolt release button. Tried to fire it but bolt didnt go into battery. He attemped to "Pull" on the forward assist to open the action. Also seen him trying to use his car key to release the "bullet button". He was upset because the tip of the key was too wide to push the button. Yes I showed him what he was doing wrong. Oh one more thing same guy and gun. No battery in his EOTech...

Dude I've seen so many guys with expensive AR's who have no idea how to use them. One dude had a Bushmaster, free float rail, bipod and a scope. He was firing his rifle up at about a 45 degree angle from the bench, way over the targets and into the mountainside. Had no idea how to even find the target in his scope. Another guy at an indoor range had no rear sight on his Ar and was arguing with one of the range officers about why he needed it. Conversation went something like this

range officer :"you've got no rear sight"
              range retard: "so?"
range officer: "so you have nothing to ****ing aim with jackass"
              range retard: "so?"

The craziest story I've heard involving range retards, would be this one time I read about a guy who handed his friend's cousin an AR-15 so he could bumpfire his ammo while wearing a horse mask. I mean, what kind of person lets someone take their guns and just start bumpfiring like that?

The opposite would be this time time a guy in a horse mask of all things managed to sucker someone into letting him bumpfire their AR with their own ammo, so the dude in the horse mask didn't even have to pay for it. I've never been able to convince anyone at the range to just let me bumpfire copious amounts of their ammo, let alone do it wearing a horse mask. That guy gets 2 thumbs up.

These are fun to read lol. I honestly havent experienced anything too crazy although at USI range they had to call a ceasefire because some idiot was walking on the hillside we were shooting at. The guy didnt realize he was walking into a gun range lol. I guess the sound of rounds going off didnt clue him in.

I was training with a national guard unit once and one of the guys in my squad asked me to show him how to chamber a round and then subsequently how to operate the safety on his M16.

I offered to let a pal of mine shoot my M1A the last time we were out and he dumped the remaining 15 rounds in the magazine rapid firing it. While annoying since it was my ammo, I got over it shortly there after and loaded a fresh magazine and dumped 20 rounds as fast as I could because it looked like my buddy had fun doing the same. Turned out it was true.

Lent my friend a mosin another time and met him out in the desert a day later. He showed me a piece of steel he shot with surplus 54r from 15 yards away when I got there. Told him that was probably a bad idea, but the destruction he caused to the plate was pretty awesome, so we didn't dwell too much on it.

                    Good times!

yeah that was probably a bad decision

nah, I was shooting with people I didn't know that well, that was my mistake. I assumed that they would split ammo costs, I told them how much everything was and they just didn't think anything of it. We were shooting more guns than just my Ar, and they did buy some ammo to shoot through my shotgun, and they had some of their own guns as well, but I definitely won't be shooting with those people again.

                      thanks for the borat btw

Yesterday at field time, the guy totally ignored the one shot every 2 seconds rule, instead shot his whole magazine in two seconds.

A few minutes later, I see a shot hiring the ceiling, then u hear the girl yelled out that she just wanted to pull the trigger, but didn't bother aiming

With people I've known: A bunch of friend went shooting with me for the first time. One of them kept loading guns near the vehicles and chambering a round before walking to the firing line(BLM land). We gave him many chances, the final straw was when we were checking out my new gun near the truck and weren't watching him, he tried to quick draw a small frame 1911 from his pocket and almost shot a toe off. He wasn't allowed to shoot without someone standing with him anymore and had to take a timeout. This was a 22 yr old man.

At a range: Saw an inexperienced shooter grab a single action and shoot it I'm the air like a cowboy not knowing it was loaded. They weren't very happy about their awning. If the range had empty spots I would have moved, since it was full I packed up and left.

Was at my range a few months back when a middle aged couple came in and were going to shoot a new .45 gap. Probably too much pistol for her since she was a petite woman and had never shot a firearm. She handled it safely enough, but I noticed splinters flying off of the top of the target frame and saw the pistol was not being held level.

I got her attention and pointed out the the front white mark was supposed to align with the rear white marks and the target. Ohhhhh, she said.

Was hard not to laugh, but I didn't. Just told her she was doing well and to come back again.

At a range with some friends who are all very experienced and safety oriented (including an LEO). Two lanes down, a guy is trying to teach his girl how to shoot for the first time (trying to hit paper at 5 feet, no joke). 10 minutes later the girl decides that she is a boss since she pulled a trigger for the first time and comes over telling us to slow down and we are not safe. (Range master was right next to us the entire time, he had no concerns). Halfway through her lecture..we are confused and dumbdounded...her boyfriend figured out whats going on and comes over and drags her away.
