.22 and my .02¢

From looking back at my old posts, it looks like the Obama Ammo Scare of 2008 was over around April. That's when I could walk into most Wal-Marts in the Sacramento are and buy most any caliber.
Now, earlier in 2010, I bought 2 bricks of Federal for $25 each, so the fear factor markup this time is much more.

I just purchased my first brick in over a year this past week at turners. Was told they received a huge shipment.

I was also able to pick up 2 50 Rd boxes at a local shop. It as $5 a pop and they have about 20 boxes.

Looks another 6 months and we should be okay imo

With things so dry, as far as brick-and-mortar shops right now, I recently payed just over $100 for a brick. Yeah, I got butt-raped, no-lube, but I have some.

I haven't had to buy much in this dry-spell, as before the dry-spell I stocked up on a few K, and would like to keep it that way.

I don't think I will get screwed again, but I needed some to shoot, as my lady and I got a MKIII and the lady a 22/45, so we needed to have some extra for testing pre-ban. The majority of the brick (what is left, like 950) will probably sit in the SHTF ammo cans, since we burned through like 1,300 of my "shootables" on our 1st range trip with the 2 Rugers.

To be honest with you, I don't think that's going to happen. When this hoarding-shortage is over, the new normal (I'm willing to bet) is going to be more on the order of 5 cents a round and up. Every time we've had a crisis like this, the prices always seem to settle higher.

Local range masters always has 22lr on the central coast. I have never seem them out.

That's interesting. Here in Sacramento, specifically Sac Valley Shooting Center, they've had a drought of .22LR. The club hasn't had any in quite a while.

Ever been to Wild Bills Old West Trading in Elk Grove?

I was passing through and stopped in to ckeck it out. Besides the few 1 pound jugs of oddball powders they had on the shelf for $45 each, they had some 22 LR. I didn't ask, didn't need to have the discussion that would have followed, but they had 100 round boxes of CCI Mini-Mags for $24.95 a box!

i disagree, i hope im wrong but i disagree. based on the fact that when obama was elected to office in 2008, it was 3 years before you could readily walk into a walmart and find it. sure you could go and find every third or 4th time but not EVERY time

that was just an election....there were not MULTIPLE shootings and attempted gun grabs

there were no MAJOR changes to many states gun laws

this time around...over 5 states have LOST gun rights, more people have been adversely affected in a MUCH harsher way

there are also WAY more tactical 22's on the market than in 2008

my opinion ??? 2 more years MINIMUM before you can find at every stop

I believe with all the .22 coming into walmart, online stores & the market, that By the end of April prices on .22lr should be back to normal.

Even on the market area .22s have been going down to prices like $40 dollars per pack.

Not one store I visited yesterday in SD had a round. Not Turner's, not Wal-mart, not Big 5.....notta, zero, zilch. Been that way for months & months. I cannot get any online without paying ludicrous amounts of coin either. My family in two different midwest states cannot find any either. We are SOL for a loooong time coming still.

$24.95 WOW. just this morning i got my 3 boxes of mini mags at one of our walmrts and i paid $24.20 out the door for all 3 .

went to the gun show and the price of .22 ammo at some of the places was just a ripoff . one place was $75.00 a brick and one other was $85.00 a brick .
I just asked if he was out of his mind and walked away

check the Rimfire section, ammo finds. i scored a few thousand rounds of 22lr for about 6 cent a pop. good deals come if you are patient

My LGS Usually has them in at $5/box, 2 box maximum per day. Very rarely do they have bulk. Total bummer making the drive for 100 rounds.
