I'll never take more than 2 guns to the range on any one day UNLESS its for a 3 gun competition. I took 2 glocks, a sig 938, S&W shield 9 and my LB 1911 to the range once. I felt really cool while I was out there but spent like 15 hours cleaning them all afterwards. Def not worth it
Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Oversentimentality, oversoftness, washiness, and mushiness are the great dangers of this age and of this people." Teddy Roosevelt

          5 guns = 15 hours cleaning

Since there is no need to clean every gun evry time you shoot it just take them all.
Sighting them in should not require a bunch of time. I can do so in 5-15min each firearm. When sighting in, check sighting or load work I usually take 5-15 firearms so I can rotate them as needed to keep from overheating them.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

SO yesterday I finally got to the range and shot 3 of 5 new guns I recently purchased. I wanted to give a line or two of feedback regarding each weapons for your reading pleasure.

              Glock 42
I hate 380's with a passion, but after shooting this little gem, even if they come out with a 9mm version I'll keep this one as my lightest/smallest CCW. It handles like a dream, even though not as powerful as a 9mm, I'm sure placement and follow-up shots will more than make-up for the lack of power. The trigger sucked for the first 30 rounds or so by by round 100 it was much improved. Not one FTF or FTE, not one. The sights had to be drifted to the right a bit.

              Gen 4 Glock 20
Full size 10mm with a Lone Wolf compensated 6" barrel. Powerful and dreamy as well. I was more accurate with this due to the plush trigger and it feels a bit easier to shot than a Glock 40 cal. It has a little less snap than a 40 but a bit more follow up torque. It was dead on out of the box, unlike the Glock 42 which I had to drift the rear sights. I believe in part that the G4 with a better recoil spring (stated to be 20% less felt recoil vs Gen 3's) and with the compensated barrel this guns falls well into the acceptable level for handling. I'd carry this anywhere and feel right at home with it. Not one FTF or FTE. And it's dead on.

              HK MP-5 22LR
I thought this would be a neat little toy, well I think I was wrong, it's not a toy, but the real deal. Runs buttery smooth, not one FTF or FTE after 400 rounds, many which were rapid fire at maximum finger speed. Some have stated they wouldn't trust their life to a 22lr, I can tell you that I would. This may very well be the HD weapon of choice around my house from today on. It holds rounds galore, no recoil, low noise and dead on accuracy, with a carry strap it means I can go hands on and still maintain control of my weapon. If you told me I could have this or a my 10-22, I'd take this any day of the week. it's twice the fun!

As far as future purchases this may sound odd, but I hoping there will be no need to purchase anything else, seems all the bases are covered and it's time to take care of other hobbies and interest.

Interesting choice of a .22 for home defense, are you worried about overpenetration?
As Eric and Barry on IV8888 said, "A .22 will kill the crap out of you!" lol

only 3? you're lucky. I've got a Mossberg 20 gauge, a Marlin 60, a hi point 9mm, a kahr cw9, and a rem 870 that I haven't shot yet. when I get time to go I'll take them all. my family normally makes it a whole day thing.
                  I don't own any guns...they're dangerous.
