Armor Piercing Rounds -or- Journalistic Snipers?

Of course with gun laws being so bizarre, what seems like a slight inaccuracy, can be a big difference to enthusiasts.

I would say that the differential between armor piercing and non-armor piercing is a bit more than "slight" (especially if someone involved in a shooting is wearing body armor), though I do get your point.

The thing is though when you are standing there and a police officer who looks and sounds like he knows what he is talking about, you are just going to run with it.

Last I checked the only handgun ammo considerd to be "Armor piercing" is steel core ammo per the BATFE ruling.
If the press were objective and honest, the entire country would be shall issue, and there's no way in hell an inexperienced community organizer turned junior senator hack from the most corrupt city in the country would ever become president.

Yeah, but then you are going to have to explain how an oil family managed to get two presidents in the white house, when previously obtaining unsecured business loans through a dummy finance company propped in the United States, from a source in Saudi Arabia - where our military then ends up on the boarder of Kuwait and Iraq, fighting the same people who they would later have to fight all over again in Baghdad.

Is it the "Press," or "The People," or the "System." Or, a little of all the above.

Stupid. The news business is still a business so it is a game of trying to keep expenditures at a minimum while maximizing revenue. As someone that has seen behind the curtain of both broadcast and print journalism I can tell you that there is no hidden agenda, just stupid people running the show.

If there is a political agenda it is an obvious one (MSNBC or Fox News), but that agenda only serves the purpose of catering to a specific audience to increase viewers/readers, and thus advertisement revenue.

Many years ago when I was a technology engineering consultant, I once had a long conversation with CNN Producer during a flight from KSFO to KDFW. She was 30 years old back then.

All I kept saying to myself was that I could not believe how young she was for the role of international news broadcast producer. I always thought that producers were people of considerable experience in life and career. It seemed very odd to me that someone with that much content control could be so young. For some reason, I had the image of a gray haired individual sitting at a conference table calling the shots out to a bunch of eager, young newcomers.

My reality was definitely put in check that day about how television news works and who drives it.

This still doesn't change what I said. Police are not "experts"; they are guys with a badge whose job is to take "bad guys" off the streets.

I stand by my original statement: If you are not familiar with, or unsure of, the technical specs then don't use them. If the specs are required for the story take the time to research them.

Anything less is just being lazy, dishonest, or both.

Sorry, but that just isn't going to happen. Remember it is a business, the primary goal is to make money. Taking the time to do research and stuff cuts into that primary goal. To cover themselves they will usually quote someone, or use inclusive language like "ONE of the most dangerous pistols" instead of "THE most dangerous pistol" or "CAPABLE of shooting armor piercing bullets" instead of "LOADED with armor piercing bullets."

I'm certainly biased as a print/photo guy, but broadcast news is the ultimate circus.

One may also ask if the size of the pistol was relevant. Absolutely, as the allegations are that it was being used to coerce and intimidate the victim. So you can see the author of a damn near tabloid rag like the NY Post was doing his best to help the reader understand just how insane this guy is waving his gun around during a domestic dispute.

I know it won't happen, but I refuse to make excuses for it either.

In this day and age of 24 hour internet access where most facts are at your fingertips via a smartphone in your pocket, failure to do due diligence when reporting something as a fact is still being lazy, dishonest, or both. Calling it anything less is excusing the behavior.
