HAWAII: Registration is required of all firearms and ammunition with the county chief of police within 72 hours of arrival on the islands. Rifles or shotguns may be transported for target shooting at a range or hunting provided they are unloaded and cased or securely wrapped. If they are transported for hunting, valid state hunting licenses must be procured. Handgun transportation is limited to one's place of sojourn or between the place of sojourn and a target range or going to or from a place of hunting. The handgun must be unloaded and securely wrapped or cased.

Which island are you guys spending your honeymoon?

Stan, I know of one gun range off the Honoapilani Hwy heading towards Lahaina, but I don't remember the name of it.

That's Ukumehame Firing Range, I think the turn off is near the Maui ocean center. I scoped it out before my honeymoon, but never made it up there. Congrats Stan and Amber.

Make sure you have lunch or dinner at Mama's fish house. It can be tough to get a dinner reservation; however their lunch menu I believe is the same. It is da best.

                      Hawaii

I'll get one our shooting friends to answer your question. He's been to Hawaii and shot USPSA matches there several times.

If you're still interested I can get you all the specifics for bringing a handgun to Maui. I was there in April and shot a USPSA match while I was there. It's relatively easy to do however you can't carry one for self defense.
You'll also need to get all the regulations for the airline that you're using. Checking the gun in going both ways from San Francisco and leavng Maui was very easy too. Much faster than I expected.
                        Have fun there.

Does anyone know Hawaii's hand gun laws? I just like to have some heat with me when I travel....you know...SHTF when away from home,etc.etc.

                        Take care,Stan

Found some BS on this site:

"Once a person has made the decision to purchase a gun, a federally licensed dealer will fill out a federal form 4473, which requires identifying and other information about the buyer, and record the make, model, and serial number of the firearm. There is a five-day waiting period during which a background check is run for any information that may disqualify the buyer from owning a firearm. The buyer may purchase the firearm only after the application is approved."

                          This is supposedly "federal" law...
Former "Subject" of the People's Republic of California in "exile" in Washington State.
