Can't Decide

So it won't be too long before I'm able to buy my first gun. But, I'm having problems. I can't decide on what I want. Anyone else have this problem? It's between a Mossberg 590A1 w/ Specops stock or a Henderson Defense AK. Everytime i decide on one, I see the positives of the other one outweigh it. It's getting annoying.(btw the "get both" isn't an option. We're not at ARFCOM lol)

I would say go with the shotgun if its for home defense. But if you were to go with a AK get a saiga.

Yeh HD is my primary concern. Although i don't for see anything like that ever happening, I still want to be able to handle it if it ever arises. I'm thinking about taking a class also.

Get the 590A1 and go shoot lots of skeet, it is super fun, and you will learn your gun, just ignore the old guys with O/U's that glare at you.

Honestly, for a first gun, I'd get the AK. I have absolutely no reason for shorter barrel shotguns at the range, they get REALLY boring to shoot after a while unless you're shooting clay. I rarely bring my HD shotguns out to the range, cuz... what're you gonna shoot at?

With the AK, you can shoot for groups (well, sorta ), shoot steel and just plain plink. Its far more applicable in your situation than the shotgun. Although, the 590A1 would be a far better home defense weapon over the AK.

Get the AK. You can use just about any gun for HD. Like many have said already, you can take the AK to the range and have fun while both of you get to know each other. Plus is cheaper on the ammo.

You're gonna have a lot more fun with the AK - ammo is cheap and it's fun to shoot.

You might even want to consider the two barrel cheapie combo shotgun with the longer barrel for trap, down the road. The 590A1 is a great shotgun, but it's hard to screw up a SG - especially a pump.

get a 10/22 and the Big 5 Mossberg special (Mossberg 500 with 18" and 28" barrels). You can afford to feed the 10/22 to your heart's content and you will have the shotgun for HD.

So it is obvious you haven't got the bug yet - black rifle disease. Once you do forget that shotgun! You'll be able to buy those forever, but AKs you never know.

If your currently unarmed at home I would start with a shotgun
maybe get the combo from big 5 so you can shoot trap too

I just like to piss of the trap/skeet snobs with HD shotguns, break more clays with the HD and then break out a O/U or AL391 and do it again.

Plus I am more of a AR than AK kind of guy, but if AK is what you like, more power to ya!

Hmm thanks for the input. You guys have enlightened me.I'm thinking the AK would be ALOT more fun to shoot, ammo would be cheaper, and i could still use it for HD i suppose. I wouldn't be clearing the house or anything, just static defense. Plus i'm not planning on staying in CA for college so I'd be able to get high capacity magazines to go along with it. I don't think they could install a ban by august 09. Congress is too slow for that.
