I use the EP4 and I love them. I don't need to double up unless there is something really loud at the range. I got a big head so the electric ear muff start crushing my ears after 40 minutes. With the Surefires I can wear them for hours without any discomfort.

I think the EP3's were virtually useless. I could have stuck 2 cigarette butts in my ears and they would have worked better. I double plug with soft 32nrr plugs, and Howard Leight 24db e-muffs. That combo allows me to hear the best while still having protection at all times. I can hear conversation really well, but it gets a bit spotty with heavy fire going on. The muffs cut out the conversation so it is hard to catch everything.

They take a few more seconds to put in but i have fell in love with these plugs. The only time i have to double up is when i'm at an indoor range (that is due to my own opinion not sound).

I use the Surefire plugs, but they sometimes need alittle help from muffs. I don't need to double up with most handguns unless shooting indoors, when I shoot trap I usually just use the Surefire plugs. THey are super comfortable, and I've lost a pair of the custom plugs which are slightly better and much more expensive.

Haha I've slept with them too. They block out a lot of snoring from a co-worker whom I was rooming with on a business trip. The guy snores like godzilla but with the EP4s he managed to sound like a human

Useless. For me and the wife anyway. Foam + muffs still win.

I think it may also matter if you use an indoor or outdoor range. Indoor I imagine would reverb more, and I might not think it was enough. Also, stop using the EP3/4 if it isn't enough. The EP6/7 are quite a bit better, even if the numbers only look a bit higher. That bit makes a difference.
