What if someone started randomly collecting microstamped brass

What if someone started randomly collecting microstamped brass and randomly leaving a few here and there in areas of lots of criminal gun use, like certain streets in Oakland, SF, San Jose, Chicago, Detroit and other liberal paradises?

(OK, it is kinda 'littering' but IIRC there is some big exception to 'littering' if it is 'political action', so I'm gonna stretch it, and after all the brass has quite a bit of value for scrappers in those poor liberal havens for the many "shopping cart" men and women)

First thing that could happen "in theory" is cops would come knocking on the door of Joe Blow, the computer programmer and gun owner in Redding, CA about ANOTHER shooting on International Blvd, Oakland. But they will also have brass from that block from 5 other random guys with clean records and alibis from different distant towns.

Then they are gonna need to invent a whole new science of 'brass dating' which will be challenged(increasing expense) by defense lawyers, and in general the whole micro-stamping will have a whole new layer of 'reasonable doubt'.

One of many problems with that idea is that microstamped brass simply doesn't exist at the moment (outside of the laboratory and certain California legislators' delusional dreams.)

Well, selling used brass isn't illegal. And since people are willing to sell 'clean' urine to pass drug tests, it is not inconceivable that a market for used micro-stamped brass will emerge, should the law be upheld.

Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus of judges, police, prisons and gendarmes at the service of the plunderers, and treats the victim -- when he defends himself -- as a criminal. Bastiat

I think about 30 seconds with a file will take care of your microstamp problem if it ever comes up.

We'll have to invent self destructing primers.

Since micro stamping is ONLY a stupid California law - and no gun manufactures are producing or planning on producing such weapons - there really isn't a need for all the hypothetical "What if" questions.

For the moment it looks like microstamping is as fictional as the Lord of the Rings, but should it ever become commonplace, of course microstamped brass will be collected, in bulk, and commercially reloaded as well. Again and again and again. As brass is now. A few years after microstamping becomes widespread, reloaded ammunition will be available that has already been stamped two or more times.

I think you're missing the original intent of this thread.

The micro-stamping would be worthless as (from what I've read) stats show that most firearms used in crime are stolen. So, Joe Blow gets victimized when his property is stolen then in a few years he's victimized again when the police show up at his door then (at the rate ZaziFornia is going) the victims of the gun crime will victimize him again in court with civil suits (remember, you can now be sued if someone breaks in your house and gets hurt).

Likely, the biggest problem with your idea is the bums will grab all the brass lying around to recycle it or kids will grab it as a 'cool' toy.

I believe the failure of the idiotic micro-stamping law is it will only point back at the LEGAL, owner who had their property stolen, not the perp.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

                          We would probably conclude that
                          1) that person could probably tie his own shoes
                          2) that person had been reading Calguns and other sites since 2007.
                          3) that person exists someplace in the future where a manufacturer actually chose to implement 'microstamping'.

This is not a new thought. It is also not a secret to the Legislature.

Can we micro-stamp our legislators as they are the greatest threat to the public?

                              Why worry about microstamped brass?

Just get a baggie of spent 9mm and .380. Ensure they're cleaned of [your] finger prints, spread two or three of the 9mm and one of the .380 at a very loud night club on a Friday or Saturday night. Then watch the news.

I knew a buddy who was kind of pissed at a do it yourself, wand type, car wash and the world in general, in a suburb to San Diego.

Late one December evening, after deer hunting out of state and taking his three deer and hauling the deer for his son and his hunting buddy (count 7 deer total), he did a quick wash of his truck's bed and left an intact and thawed deer heart in the corner of the stall.

Hilarity, for my buddy at least, ensued. How many ubber liberal cops does it take to determine the make and model of a bloody heart?
