I finally got pulled over on my scooter.

It was 11 PM and I had just left a friend's house to go home. I am driving up the street and see headlights behind me way back. They are getting closer. I am pretty sure it is a cop. Sure enough, before I make a right, he lights me up. Finally, I am armed, I am on a yellow scooter, I have on camo Crocs, and I get pulled over.

It went as basic as ever. He said I wasn't stopping compeltely and he would prefer I put my foot down. I asked if I had to put my foot down. He said no. He ran my DL, I cam back clean, he asked what kind of mileage I got, and then that was that. Of course I didn't volunteer that I was armed and he didn't ask. Even after I told him I owned the gun shop in town. He was nice and that was that.

I have been riding that scooter around Taft for years late at night to run packages to the post office and finally I got my wish. As the stop was ending I said last time I got harassed, then corrected myself. I then told the story of how his sargeant actually did stop me and then proceeded to detain me for 30 minutes a while back on my FZ6. He wanted to talk about guns.

I was actually wondering if it was my CHP buddy messing with me until I saw it was Taft PD.

So he had nothing better to do than pull over a scooter rider that wasn't putting his foot down properly? Must have been a slow night in Taft!

I consider the guy a hunter. What if I was deuced? What if I was acting nervous? What if I was running drugs? Personally I think good cops pull people over. They try and find something. They do so by making traffic stops and looking for things out of order.

This guy handled it great. My DL was good. I was acting calm and collected. We were being respectful to one another. This stop lasted probably no more than 3 minutes. He determined I appeared to be a decent citizen and I was on my way.

I wonder what he thought of my Stag shopping bag that had a bunch of USPS envelopes in it? Or maybe even my Glock sticker by my feet?

My yellow Honda Metro II gets around 40 MPG. My Yamaha FZ6 actually does better at about 50 MPG driving back and forth to Bakersfield.

My advice to you is don't go to Taft unless you know somebody there.

Why did you tell him you owned a gun shop? For some reason I never get pulled over on my motorcycle which surprises me.

From what I have gathered from some of my cop friends is they so often never catch motorcycles they a lot of times won't even bother. Basically if your bike looks fast, they let you go because they figure you are going to outrun them and get away.

So maybe that is why he pulled me over, he knew I couldn't outrun him!

Actually he did say he rides a bike too. I think he was just bored and fishing. Again, I like that he was. He works in my town and I want him being active and taking trash off the streets.

"Fishing" might be ok if it involves very good probable cause and not DWB, driving while black or brown. I knew a case that got thrown out for this even though the guy was illegally CCWing.

My bike doesn't look particulary fast I don't feel but who knows? When I don't shave and look scraggly I figure I'm asking for it when riding the bike.

Are you sure it wasn't the fashion police? You were after all wearing Crocs!

Hold on, you are getting 40MPG on 50cc Honda metro? You are doing something wrong! I used to get about 75MPG on my Zuma.
I know a few people with Metros and they getting 90 to a 100MPG.
You need to get one of thise

Perhaps with some cops that may be the case, probably individual officer discretion, but rest assured they will attempt a traffic stop. They may not pursue, especially if there is an aerial unit nearby and the tolerance may be higher for certain violations, but they will stop you. I've been pulled over twice on my 1200 Bandit. Both times for speeding. Got off without a ticket on the one from my local PD (58 in 40, he was on a bike too) and the other (Chipper) wrote me up for 85 in 65 on the freeway (clocked me at 91). Both of these are within the last 2 years. And yes, he did show up to court.
